Lifting the curtains on Velvet touch UI for tablets, delivers impressive 3D effects

The Astonishing Tribe has plenty of impressive UI concepts under their belts (including work on Android, FUSE and many others). Now they’re trying their skilled hands at tablet UIs – what they came up with is called Velvet UI…

The Velvet UI demo is running on a MeeGo tablet by Wind River but apparently it can run on Android and “other tablet OSes” just as fine.

The Velvet UI turns widgets into curtains – you can pull them up to hide them, pull them aside to reveal controls underneath them and so on. And all this with a big does of eye-candy sugar. The Astonishing Tribe say that tablets are primarily for media consumption, so hiding the controls behind the content makes sense, especially on smaller screens. Check out the demo video:
