Last year, after doing pretty much nothing with it, HP decided to sell the rights to WebOS to LG, who did something completely unexpected and decided to put it in its TVs instead.
Now, eleven months since that happened, we are finally getting a first glimpse at LG’s first TV running WebOS. Courtesy of evleaks, the image shows a gorgeous looking panel with an integrated stand and nearly nonexistent bezel around the screen.
But what we are interested in here is the UI. The UI looks nothing like the WebOS we have seen in the past and if you had no prior knowledge of the underpinnings of the UI you’d never guess what it was running on. You can see on the screen the TV comes with YouTube, Skype, AccuWeather, vTuner and Twitter apps preinstalled, along with a web browser and other features. Then again, apps on TVs these days are not uncommon and you don’t really need WebOS to achieve this.
We’ll probably be seeing this TV being officially announced at CES. I hope LG puts the abilities of WebOS to better use in future.
