LG introduces the “True HD IPS” display officially, brags about its color accuracy, brightness, and battery efficiency

Granted, LG already introduced an actual smartphone with its True HD IPS display, but the company only saw fit to announce the technology officially now. The company held an event in Seoul dedicated to the new screen, detailing its advantages over competing screen technologies.

According to LG, True HD IPS display takes the viewing experience on mobile handsets, thanks to its high resolution (1280 x 720 real RGB pixels) and automatic color adjustments applied by LG’s exclusive Mobile HD Graphic Engine.

The Koreans also believe that the IPS displays perform better than AMOLED in areas of color accuracy, brightness and battery efficiency. Now, we get the color accuracy and brightness bits of that claim, but we really aren’t sure how an LCD can match the power efficiency of an AMOLED, where the whole screen doesn’t need to be lit at all times.

Still, we are really excited about seeing the new LG LCD in flesh and we hoping that the company will release a global version of the LG Optimus LTE SU640 sooner, rather than later.
