iOS 8 adoption got off to a slow start – it took three weeks to achieve 40% share. iOS 6 and 7 before took only a week to hit 50%. Now, close to half a year after iOS 8 was unleashed to the public, it has clawed its way up to 75%, Apple says.
Version 8 has already had one minor update (v8.1) with the next one (v8.2) expected in about a week and the one after that (v8.3) already seeding to developers.
Anyway, here’s how the iOS version distribution stands currently. iOS 8 is clearly the dominant version with three quarters of the market, but there’s still a significant number of people holding on to iOS 7.
Unfortunately, there’s no info on how those 22% are spread over older devices – is it mostly iPhone 4s/5 or are there a lot of iPhone 5s users too?
Apple’s WWDC should come in early June and most likely we’ll see iOS 9 unveiled. That won’t come out to consumers until later in the year, but time is running low for iOS 8 to push version 7 into a tiny minority.
