If it’s worth doing on camera, it’s worth doing in front of a live audience right? Maybe even better! HTC’s Re action camera will gain the ability to livestream footage to YouTube starting tomorrow, which will set it apart from market leader GoPro.
The new functionality is coming through an update to its companion app, Android gets it tomorrow while iOS will get it “later in Q1.”
After updating you’ll also need to sign into your YouTube channel and enable live streaming. That’s it – all that remains is to send out a link to the stream, the app lets you use text messages or your social network of choice to do that. Once it’s all over, YouTube will keep the video for on-demand viewing.
Keep in mind that the Re camera sends the footage to your smartphone, which then sends it to the YouTube servers. So you’ll need a data connection with enough bandwidth to handle the upload.
Note that while HTC’s press release mentions “snorkeling adventure,” I doubt the wireless connection between the Re and your phone will work underwater. Filming yourself punching a shark was a bad idea anyways.
