Did you know there was a site called iphone5.com as far back as 2008? Weird (or really forward thinking), considering that’s when only the second iPhone – the 3G – was announced. That site wasn’t owned or operated by Apple though – it used to be a forum with a ton of ads.
After filing a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Apple did win the rights to the domain though, WIPO’s decision just went through.
As of now, iphone5.com is an empty site. Maybe one day it will redirect to Apple’s site straight to the page of the new iPhone. Which may or may not be called iPhone 5 – if they adopt the new iPad naming scheme, the new iPhone will probably just be called “iPhone”.
