Sources close to Apple are suggesting that the hardware and human interface (software) design teams at Apple are getting closer and more involved in each others’ work.
It’s more evident now that pushing Scott Forstall out of Apple is working wonders in terms of increasing collaboration between Apple’s hardware and software teams. Allegedly Ive is currently pushing a more “flat design” into iOS’s next build.
Johnathan Ive, leading Apple’s Industrial Design, is sitting in on Greg Christie’s Human Interface team’s meetings. The HI team is getting hardware prototypes earlier than before helping the hardware and software side of things to be more cohesive.
Since Forstall’s departure Craig Federighi has been put in charge of both Mac and iOS software teams but he has expressed that he plans to keep the two separate and not unite them just yet.
