Google’s upcoming Photos app leaks

We have been hearing rumors of the Photos app in Android for a while now but Android Police finally has some solid information on it, including lots of screenshots.

As you may know, the current Photos app in Android is part of the Google+ app, and you need a Google account to use it. However, Google has been working on separating it from Google+ and making it a standalone gallery app (and service).

Some of the new features include being able to pinch out to see more images at once, ability to press and hold and just swipe (how you’d use a mouse pointer on a desktop to mark multiple items) over multiple images to mark them, swipe sideways to move between categories, and automatic organization of images according to location, date, people, etc.

There is also a Photos Assistant feature that replaces the previous Auto Awesome, and creates movies, collages, stories, albums and more using your photos, along with organizing your photos and freeing up space. There is also more control over which images are added to your movies, albums or collages.

Other than that, you can also share a bunch of images with someone. The app creates a link which are then available in a private album online for someone else to see. There are also general changes to the UI across the app and some new photo editing features.
