Archos has its focus firmly on tablets at MWC and pulled the wraps off three slates, sporting the company’s “Fusion Storage” technology. Using software algorithms, the tablets will combine built-in memory with microSD card capacity for a combined storage solution.
The whole process happens automatically for a seamless user experience, and should allow for practically unlimited capacity for apps and media. The technology will be made available in select models already in existence via a software update, but will debut on the Magnus range of tablets, announced today.
The top-of-the line model, dubbed Archos 101 Magnus Plus, packs a 10.1″ IPS screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. It features a Rockchip RK3288 chipset with a quad-core Cortex-A17 processor ticking at 1.8GHz and a Mali-T764 GPU. 2GB of RAM should enable unhindered multitasking, while the Fusion Storage capacity is 128GB. A generous 7000mAh battery has resulted in a hefty 570g overall package. Retail price is quoted at £249.
The Archos 94 Magnus comes with a smaller 9.4-inch screen of 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and 1.5GB of RAM. It’s this precise model that packs the headline 256GB storage capacity, and commands the same price tag.
The Archos 101 Magnus (without the “Plus” moniker) is the lower-specced 10-incher, and the 1024×600 pixel resolution stretches pretty thin on this diagonal, resulting in 118ppi density. You get a single gig of RAM and “only” 64GB of storage. It is only half the price, so no surprises here.
Picking the right one for you will be made easier by the comparison table below, provided by Archos.
