Samsung unveiled the Samsung NX1, a mirrorless shooter with a 28MP BSI APS-C sensor. It’s a smart camera with 15fps burst shooting and DCI 4K video capture.
The company also unveiled a new telephoto lens, the NX 50-150mm f/2.8 with OIS.
For stills the camera features the NX AF System III with 205 phase detect AF points and a patterned AF assist beam that reaches up to 15 meters. The DRIMe V image processor features Samsung Auto Shot – Samsung claims its new camera is so good it can track a baseball as it travels towards the player and will shoot a photo by itself.
The NX1 records 2160p at 30fps or 24fps or DCI 4K at 24fps (DCI is 4,96 x 2,160). It uses the new HEVC (aka h.265) codec and doesn’t need external video recorders.
The camera has a tilting 3″ Super AMOLED screen and an electronic viewfinder. You can use a smartphone as a remote viewfinder and easily cast your photos and video on a compatible Smart TV.
The Samsung NX1 can upload photos and videos to mobile devices (phones and tablets) with a tap thanks to Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac and NFC. A constant Bluetooth 3.0 connection can be maintained between the camera and the phone so photos can be geo-tagged using the phone’s positioning system.
The camera body is made of a magnesium alloy and is water and dust-resistant. It’s arriving in mid-October for $1,500. For $2,800 you also get a 16-50mm f/2-2.8 lens, a battery grip and an external charger.
The Samsung 50-150mm f/2.8 lens is the second in the premium S line. It features an ultra-precise stepping motor for more accurate focus and a four-axis optical image stabilization. The lens is dust and water-resistant, just like the NX1 camera.
