Our in-depth review of the 6″ Sony Xperia T2 Ultra has been around for a while and it’s time we give you the full battery breakdown. The phablet packs a huge 3,000 mAh battery to power the massive 6″ IPS 720p display, plus it’s quad-core Cortex-A7 processor should be lightweight on the battery.
We were disappointed from the battery performance of the Sony’s previous phablet – the Xperia Z Ultra – so we didn’t expect miracles from the T2 Ultra either. We couldn’t have been so wrong.
First, we test the Xperia T2 Ultra in 3G calls. With the enormous screen out of the equation, the Xperia T2 Ultra outed one of the best scores we’ve encountered in the 3G talk time test.
The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra excelled our web browsing test conquering the fifth spot in our all time chart. Its battery went dead after half a day on non-stop web browsing, unbelievable result for a 6″ display!
Our final routine tests the video playback endurance. The Xperia T2 Ultra once again did excellent lasting 13 hours and 12 minutes on a looped video playback – one of the best results to date!
So, Sony Xperia T2 Ultra did great on all of our stress battery tests. But what about the stand-by performance? Of course it excelled that too! With such excellent results there is no surprise the Xperia T2 Ultra has one of the best endurance ratings we’ve seen so far – 96 hours. Note that we tested the device without using the STAMINA mode, or any battery enhancement whatsoever. The score of 96 hours means the T2 Ultra will last four days on a full charge with an hour each of calling, browsing and watching video daily.
However an important note is due here – when set at 50% brightness the Xperia T2 Ultra display actually drops to far less than half its maximum brightness. It’s just over 100 nits, meaning that if you use the screen at higher brightness settings (i.e. if you are often outdoor) you will probably get far lower scores.
Don’t miss to see how these results compare to all other phones we’ve tested in our Battery life table.
