Sony has just announced the second generation model of its handheld gaming console, the PlayStation Vita, at the SCE Japan press conference. The new model is said to be 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than the previous generation Vita.
Along with the reduction in size and weight, Sony has also swapped the OLED display in the previous model with an LCD on the new one. But despite these changes, the new Vita will have a longer battery life of six hours, compared to five on the previous one.
The new Vita will also include 1GB of internal storage space and Sony has also announced a new 64GB memory card with reduced prices for existing cards, at least in Japan for now. Sony has also replaced the proprietary connector with a standard microUSB port on the new model. Lastly, the new PS Vita will be available six color options: black, white, gray, blue, yellow and pink.
The new PS Vita will be available in Japan in Wi-Fi-only configuration starting October 10 for 18,980 Yen. The international availability is yet to be announced.
