Well you may be right with current way of using even large pc-monitors, usually placed around 1-1.5 times the diagonal from the users.

But look at the size of your old wooden desktop...
I would guess that we will have much larger 'screens' (could be projected images or a new technology) with a work area in the centre and the rest in the periphery from where you would 'pull it in' to use. Quite similar to what all of us with untidy desktops do today: grab over and find the interesting paper, and pull it to central working area.

I think 4K makes really good sense for cinemas. 2K is just a bit too coarse if you like to sit in the front third of the cinema to fill out the field of view. But for all the 'backbenchers' that goes to the cinema to hold hands and kiss and not see the film, 2K is more than adequate.

I don't think 4K will make much sense for home-cinemas, since you obviously can't have the screen higher than a standard room wall, and this makes it difficult to have more than one or two good seats close enough to make 4K meaningful. But of course single geeks could make their own private theatre (with a VERY low 'WAF')

What is this utter nonsense you are colporting???
 "4096×2304 resolution...... you’ll need a 25 feet (7.62 meters) screen."
The resolution has NOTHING to do with the ABSOLUTE size of the screen!!

But 4096 pixel would match 68 degree of the viewing field for a person with 20-20 vision.
(20-20 vision, that is the ability to see 1/60 of a degree, so 4096 pixel matches a view-field of 4096/60=68 deg.)
...and yes I assumed this includes eye-movements looking at the screen, since the central 'sharp' field of vision is much less then the 68 degree.

So you could (theoretically) make a 46" 2x2 grid of 23" 2048 x 1152 monitors (e.g. samsung 2343NW) placed at a distance of (roughly) 20" to get the same experience...

you're totally right, but I'm telling you that, 10 years from now (when at least the normal TV broadcast will be in 1080p), we'll remember how we were excited about 4K when it was available for the first time. 4K is the standard of the future. The Japanese guys are already working on a res higher than that for TV broadcast!!. (Japan was the first to achieve 1080i HD broadcast back in 1983, using an analog system)

My friend have fullHD projector, we go out site and watch avatar in huge wall, screen was bigger that 70inch, video was just amazing(we sit about 4meter from wall) and now think about 4k res in 30inch screen... I can ensure you: you don't see difference betwen fullHD and 4k in that small screen. In 10-30 screen bigger res is just useless and power hungry. As i say early. Youtube is created for personal pc, and normal user with normal pc don't need that res!
