yes the 4:3 ratio at full resolution is 38mp and at 16:9 is 34mp, however those pictures will not have any over-sampling so cameras will be able to produce better quality high resolution photos, whereas the pureview can use the extra pixels when taking photos at lower resolutions for oversampling in 5/8mp photos which will be much better in quality… providing that you don;t intend to blow up your pictures on a large canvas and stick to monitors,TVs and photo paper which are smaller.

Samsung has been on electronics world about many years, they haven’t appeared now with Android. The already had DSLRs before and even air conditioners and washing machines.
Sony had cameras over a long time, Canon make printers. When it comes to the digital photograpy, the tech giants are in home. It was diferent on film era.

The purpose is to have a great monitor, so I guess the AMOLED display is not anymore tuned lke the phones’ screens, probably tuned to show precise picture and superb contrast, to show exactly what was been captured.
