WhatsApp and Snapchat have eclipsed Facebook in number of photos shared

Venture capital firm KPCB published a report on Internet trends and one of the slides stands out – each day over 1.8 billion photos were uploaded and shared using social networking and messaging apps. WhatsApp and Snapchat are the titans of the field.

Facebook has a significant share too but its growth seems slow compared to the apps. Of course, WhatsApp is now Facebook territory, so it’s not too bad for Zuckerberg and co.

That deal cost the social network giant a whopping $19 billion. It paid a lot less for Instagram, “just” $1 billion, but the difference in market share easily justifies the massive difference in price tags.

Facebook tried to buy Snapchat too, which would probably have secured it a monopoly (KPCB numbers don’t include Line, Viber, WeChat, Kakao Talk and so on). Old timer Flickr barely gets any use compared to the competition.
