RGBW coding has nothing to do with HDR, it should help in low-light as you said, but even patented in 2007 by Kodak hasn't seen some bright future.

HDR is only good for landscapes/still images, it doesn't help with scenes where you have some movement (people, pets, busy streets...) as ghosting effect is inevitable.

Also RS will have new signal processor, let's see how this compares to current Exmor R.

I guess we'll have to wait and see results. :)

Cheers,
Miki

I want TX with waterproofing... But it doesn't have it... And XV lacks great design of TX, camera shutter key & HD front cam(it has VGA only)... Sony has confused me here.... So i'll wait for 2013 line-up with a hope that i'll get what i really want from Sony... And few more questions Bro... Exmor RS is one of the main things that made me wait for 2013 line-up... But now RGBW coding has been removed... My question is, will Exmor RS have real HDR(you said it)... I heard somethin like S3,One X, Xperia V have HDR function too but they're jus over-toned ones not real HDR, but Sony was goin to develop real HDR... Even without RGBW coding will Sony have it...?? Cos RGBW coding is for low-light perormance... How will sensors work without it... And with Exmor RS on board, will Sony deliver better pics with greater quality than what we see from Xperias now or it'll be nothing special ...??? How abt low-light performance with RGBW... Will it be better that today's Xperias...??? Why i'm askin all these is, recent Xperias are producing good quality pics but suffering from compression probs... So i hoped that 2013 Xperias with Exmor RS will come out with greater quality & without any prob... So my expectation is will 2013 Xperias with Exmor RS have something to provide something...???

PS : Sorry for askin too many questions... Reply me if U have time... Cheers...:)

I wouldn't expect too much from RS. It's a logical step forward but not a breakthrough.

Good thing is aperture value is f/2.0 in RS (currently it's f/2.4), so more light coming through...

RGBW coding has been cancelled (thank God, as It’ll increase luminance dynamic range, but will decrease chrominance dynamic range) - in other words picture will look brighter but pale, something you definitely don't want.

"real" HDR implementation.

Bad thing is, it's the same photon size 1.12 microns, way too low for shooting in less than ideal lighting conditions - you need to be extremely steady or most your pictures will end up blurry.

You can google "Old Exmor R Vs New Exmor RS" and check images from sonyalphalab website.

Bottom line, if you like Xperia T and its camera performance, no need to wait for Sony 2013 lineup (coming late summer/fall 2013)

Cheers,
Miki

Thank U for the reply bro... And U have any idea about upcomin Exmor RS from Sony...??? I went thro recombu site and the low-light pics were awesome... Even without Exmor RS, XT is doing good under low-light circumstance... I wonder how upcomin XPERIAs will perform with Exmor RS sensors on board(those are specially made for great low-light performance)... My doubt is, will that compression problem continue in upcomin devices too or Sony will take some action to avoid it in the future...???
