But why is the new menu better?

1. You lose the visual identification of each menu entry. Before it'd be easier to recognize each menu option by its respective image, and now we have a plain text list (quick example: In the e-mail client I use I have Next and Previous in my menu now whereas before I had much easier to top arrow 'buttons' "down-next" and "up-previous"). 2. If the menu has more items they'll be higher in the screen to tap.

3. The menu has no fixed position anymore.

4. The point is Google created this problem itself.

I won't say some concepts of the action bar + the three dot menu ("action overflow") aren't good. Having the most used actions on-screen for example surely is good, but it's a double-edged sword.Thankfully HTC found a solution to this (using 3 hardware buttons, one mapped to menu - it looks almost dumb when I say it).

The classic gingerbread style menu bar with icons instead of the fixed three-dot menu bar in the top right with list. It's stupid because it was not meant for newer device with on screen button, it device like the one x that doesn't even have a menu button in the first place, it'll show a huge black bar with three dots that eats screen space.

Hm?
I use a device with ICS and Sense 3.6 on top, no holo... And the chances it were Sony's, LG Home, TouchWiz, etc, is higher than vanilla Android.
What's that legacy menu thing you are referring to and how is it more stupid than the "new"?

TAKE THAT BACK!

/s

But seriously, the part of appeal of Holo-esque app is becase the whole Android UX itself it's already Holo in the first place, not adhering to Holo guidelines make it stick out like a sore thumb. The Twitter guys doesn't even code their app properly for ICS (We STILL have that stupid legacy menu thing).
