And you have fallen for apple’s marketing scam that resolution over 300 ppi is useless. Even if you cant see the pixels any more you can still notice images getting sharper until near 1500 ppi.

Depends on how close you look, and the subpixel matrix. On an RGB screen, it’d be nearly (I wouldn’t say completely without seeing a 443ppi screen up close) impossible to tell. PenTile, you can tell if you look closely enough.

Partly legit, in that the distance you look at a screen from massively affects how much detail you can actually see. That’s why standard-def TV is still around – people watch from across the room. If you look up close, it looks awful. This is also why tablets don’t need the PPI of phones to look great.

Manufacturers recently seem to have started ‘getting’ that people want battery life as well as awesome specs, thankfully. They’re still limited by the type of battery, though.

I like the fact of a Full HD Screen with a high ppi screen but a 5 inch screen really?! Do you want a phone with a 5″ screen, The Samsung Galaxy S III is on the borderline.

I’m wondering why one buys a smartphone? For some specific purposes or jus for showing it everybody else and for saying “Mine is the best!”! For watching movies and web surfing one can use a tablet, for listening to music, taking pictures and calling – the a smartphone! So does a smartphone need 1080p display, or a display bigger than 4-4.3″? A smartphone needs to have a long lasting battery, a good camera and a good app store like Android market or the App store! Ergonomic sizes are important as well! Good gaming capabilities are must have for some people, but hardily 1080p screen is required for that! For me, Sony Xperia S’s display is perfect!

mass producing for oppo and htc is not enough. those two phone makers only sell a few numbers of phones each year. sharp should find other phone makers willing to use this display to gain profit or it will means more layoff. and i bet samsung is already coming with a better display at cheaper price.

i’m a professional photographer (this is my main and only business ) and as you can imagine, i do know allot about this….
a normal person can see at most 300 dpi (and that if he has very good vision )
a trained eye at 20/15 (which is unlikely ) can see 400 dpi if he is extremely close (to the limit of human eye focus )
400+dpi is a completely waste of resources …
