well WP7 devices are still getting updates and there are still more updates, firmware updates are by nokia, so are OS updates, nokia gets the OS and it runs on their firmware, unless MS stops supporting those devices completely (all WP8 devices), they will stop getting updates, also they promised at least 18-24 months of support and updates, which is a lot, most manufacturers don't support their devices that much (samsung does), but that's "at least", my brother had a 5530 and it -like your phone- kept getting updates for years, I think nokia updates S40 devices, I'll check with my father's asha 305

also samsung doesn't update their feature phones, my samsung star never got an update (without flashing a ROM)

I know. But that was back when they made symbian devices.
I remember, I had a 5800 and they updated it a lot, even after the S^3 devices were released. Back then they had sensible devs in charge.

Today they sell devices running a proprietary feature-phone OS, whose upgrade paths are decided by Microsoft not Nokia. Really, will Nokia update the lumia 900 to WP8?

The same could be said about Apple. They update their crippled devices to the latest version number rather quickly as well.

2 reasons:
1 - It's now an old phone, don't expect it to receive the latest -everything- forever.
2 - it took them quite a while to port 4.1.2, imagine half-way there someone saying "scrap all this and start again with 4.2.X"...yeah, I don't see that working out well.

That's how the world works - old flagships get 1 or in best (and rarest) case 2 more updates and off to the scrap yard.
