You do know that a thief already has the ability to stand behind you in line and find a clever way to spot your code (It's rediculusly easy even with people who think they cover the code), and then simply take the card from you?
Its not very much easier to stealth into you, keep close, and hold the phones together to connect with NFC. It's short - distanced, and you need to accept.
As a thief, I'd easily choose plastic cards over NFC, any day.. The safest thing is really to never carry more cash than you need, and leave the card at home.

This is pointless... In my country, the max NFC payment limit (without entering PIN number) is less than $20 which is great only for Starbucks use. Other than that it's no more convenient than plastic. Call me old fashioned but I'd rather not have my cash (even the $20) NFC'd away by some tech-savvy thief on a friggin bus. This is a technology for lazy people with too much cash on their hands.
