Sometimes to lead, you have to take some steps backwards. Nokia is on the finest path strategically, technologically and financially.

These biased surveys can say whatever they want to say about Nokia and WP but the truth is that WP is gaining traction and Nokia has been on the rise outperforming Apple by 60% in last few months.

24th January is not really far away, just check out the numbers. And yeah two biggest markets haven't been cracked till yet by Lumia series. India and China. Rosy days ahead for Nokia.

Development of Symbian and introduction of MeeGo was one of the major considerations but Nokia decided to go against Symbian because (and that was not a one man show of Elop as fanboys are always moaning, it was a decision of a board of directors with 11 members.):

1. Symbian was originally designed for non-touch devices.

2. The code was a scattered mess and brining in serious modern changes would have demanded lots of time and financial resources that Nokia couldn't have afforded.

3. Nokia would have lost the $1 Bn annual injunction from MS.

4. Most important thing: I may love Symbian, you may love Symbian but general masses don't. Symbian acquired a bad reputation over last few years and whatever Nokia would have done to it, that effort would have gone down the drain. That's why they say Bad name is badder than the bad.

5. Symbian didn't have a developing ecosystem like WP. And by ecosystem I don't mean "APPS & APPS" only.

6. I can love Symbian as much as I can but I can't deny the fact that it can't compete with modern OSs. It is clunky, buggy and still far behind. Although it's still my favorite mobile OS.

it brings money, but not quite much, lumias bring much more

they stopped making symbians because idiots think android and iOS are real mobile OSes, that's stupid because symbian is much better

supporting that stuff on symbian requires lots of money, writing drivers and supporting them is a lot, let alone the rest of the OS, kernel and security patches, it's quite hard to do so, especially if your competitors are getting that stuff for free (google gets that from the linux kernel, and apple from OSX)

telling devs to make stuff won't alone make them make that stuff, they need to persuade them, and that's not easy

I know nokia should at least made symbian a community project, but what can you do, it happened

That's not reason to not developing the Symbian until it retires 2016...it still bring Money.

what it will coast Nokia to push the resolution even to 800x400 and support better CPU and bigger battery life...you need to know that it will not take just 10 minutes if Nokia asked the developers to develop some new apps and games to satisfy it's customer...but Run away from my OS as it is shameful work or something...No I don't agree with you and I don't have problem to switch...I already switched to their lumias
