The SteelSeries and Logitech use a single driver on each side and then software emulation for recreating the surround effect, which is why they suck. There is no software wizardry in the Tiamat. It uses discrete drivers for each channel, which is why the surround experience will be better. And Razer has a reputation of making quality products.

Partly because it’s easy to deduce the cheapness of the drivers and partly because I have some experience with Steel Series and Logitech surround sound headphones (all friends’, I don’t want to be caught dead owning one of those.) They’re all… disappointing, to put it very kindly.

FYI my reference headphones are Beyerdynamic DT250 and Audio Technica AD900.

Don’t get your hopes up. The $180 you pay gets you 10 dynamic drivers, a boom mic and some DSP shit. Now do some maths on your own and estimate how cheap each of the 10 drivers cost individually.

Cramming 10 poor quality drivers inside a pair of headphones is just marketing bullshit. In practice you will never need more than one driver inside each side of the headphone in order to experience properly recorded surround sound recordings, or games that implement surround sound tech properly. $180 can get you a pair of proper, good quality stereo headphones and a clip on mic that will obliterate this 7.1 monstrosity, consistently and without fail.
