Android Wear 5.1.1 now available on Sony SmartWatch 3

Sony SmartWatch 3 is now getting the latest available Android Wear OS – 5.1.1. The update was officially announced by Google a month ago and it introduced numerous improvements and features.

Android Wear 5.1.1 adds support for Wi-Fi connectivity, which will allow the SmartWatch 3 to stay connected to your phone and do all major stuff (calls, messages, emails, fitness tracking), even when you leave or forget your Android smartphone at home. Read more »

Lenovo’s new concept smartwatch has a second display for private content

Smart wearables have definitely gotten a long way in the last year or so, but, the new class of devices is still frantically searching for an identity and comfy place in the consumer’s lives. A definite testament to this fact is the numerous and sometimes strange concepts that have appeared in some smartwatches of late. Like the integrated camera on the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 or cellular connectivity and sometimes even LTE.

But, this all seems to fade in comparison to what Lenovo showcased at the Tech World show in Beijing. The company’s latest smartwatch concept is dubbed Magic View and, at first glance bears a striking resemblance to the Moto 360, which is only natural. Project Tango Tablet Development Kit now available on the Google Store

If you remember Project Tango, it was this crazy device that could scan a room using multiple cameras and create a 3D model of it. Google had released a development kit for developers to purchase but it was $1024 and invite only.

The tablet recently got a discount to $512 and Google is now selling it on the Google Store without needing an invite. It’s interesting that this happened just a day before the I/O event, so there might be something related to this at the keynote. Read more »

Microsoft Windows 10 RTM build coming in July

The much awaited Windows 10 operating system is expected to release publicly a couple of months from now. Back in April, AMD president and CEO Lisa Su spilled beans about Windows 10’s arrival in July.

Now the Russian Windows OS builds leaker WZor noted that the timeframe is actually about the Windows 10 RTM (Release to Manufacture) build The RTM build is sent to manufacturers so they can upload it to their PCs and is the last to come before the final public version. Read more »

Lenovo Cast is a $49 Google Chromecast competitor

The Chinese tech giant Lenovo announced its first media casting device. Dubbed Lenovo Cast, the gadget is a rival to the popular Chromecast by Google.

Lenovo Cast is a round device shaped like an ice hockey puck, which can be plugged to a TV or monitor via HDMI. With support for streaming 1080p video, the Cast can easily stream content from a mobile device to a large screen. Read more »

GoPro will launch its first drone in 2016

The leading manufacturer of action cameras GoPro will launch its first quadcopter in about a year. Nick Woodman, the company’s CEO announced that the drone will debut in the first half of 2016.

Content from iOS apps is now featured in Google search results

Today Google has announced that it’s brought its App Indexing feature from Android to iOS. What this allows is for you to jump straight to a relevant iOS app from Google search results. In the example showcased by the image below, a restaurant reservation is required, and following a Google search tapping on the first result will take you to the OpenTable iOS app that’s installed on the same device. In it you can then make the desired reservation, or go back to the search results with one tap.

The feature exists in both the Google app for iOS as well as Chrome for iOS, as long as you’re signed into your Google account. For now such links to iOS apps will be limited to a short list, with Google having worked with some initial test partners so far. Read more »

Microsoft releases Office Lens app for Android

Back in April, Microsoft introduced the Office Lens app for iOS. It lets you capture anything using a smartphone’s camera and get it automatically tweaked to be saved in OneNote or OneDrive storage.

After beta testing it for several weeks, the Office Lens for Android devices is finally live in the Google Play Store. The phones running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and higher will be able to get the app. Read more »

Lenovo unveiled three new laptops at Lenovo Tech World in Beijing. Two new Z-series offer high performance and even a 3D camera, while the new Ideapad takes aim at the Chromebooks.

Xiaomi Mi Band can now sync with Google Fit

Xiaomi’s Mi Fit app has just received a new update. The fitness tracker, specifically designed to work with the company’s inexpensive Mi Band tracker, now has integration with Google’s Fit platform.

This definitely simplifies data tracking on most Android devices. Up until now, the Android Mi Fit app was mostly closed off from data exchange, which is kind of odd, considering the company’s iOS application already has integration with Healthkit. Now, using the Google Fit API, your Mi Band, or rather Mi Fit, can feed information into Google’s platform, so, you can use both without dealing with the hustle of conflicting data. Read more »

Moto 360 gets a $100 price cut

Motorola has slashed the price of the Moto 360 by $100. Those interested in picking one up can now get it for $149 instead of the previous rather steep $249 for the leather band version.

The Moto 360 is one of the first Android Wear devices and the first to have a circular display. It’s still the best looking Android Wear device on the market and has a premium watch feel thanks to its stainless steel body and leather bands. Read more »
