Please use H.264, as that is what is used in the hardware decoders.

I also think you can do it more scientifically that setting the brightness to 50%. Not all phones are the same brightness at 50%, so you should perhaps record the brightness with a light-meter (in a dark room of course). You’d also need to consider that most phones have an auto-brightness feature which uses the light sensor to adjust.

None of the quoted hours above are true. I have a Samsung Galaxy S II and the video playback time is far less than 8:05hrs. My friend has an iPhone 4 and it doesn’t last 9:40hrs, much less in fact.
