Not true, APS-C sensors constantly improves per pixel sensitivity, as modern APS-C sensors of today can beat an APS-C sensor 4 years ago - this is possible because we have a constantly evolving technology. read this review of the 24MP Sony NEX-7 and see how it puts to shame a 18MP Canon 60D which basically has lower resolution but larger pixel size.

I still recommend the D5100 because a 24.2mp on a APS-C sensor is too much. The pixel is going to be tiny which will suck in low light.Any it only can shoot 12Bits RAW which does not contain as much detail as 18Bits on the D5100.The 24.2mp is just a marketing gimmick because beginner is going to think that more MegaPixel=Better image quality. The lens is the one that make the image look good. Here's some sample I took with my D5100.

I've checked on Wikipedia, D5000 was between 2009 Q2 - 2011 Q1. D5100 started from 2011 Q2 so, if they use the same timeframe it might be Q2 2013 (tough I hope it will be sooner than that).
