It’s called expanding. WP is following the way Android does (which now powers millions of devices), to attract developers to make apps for the platform. What makes you think low resolution phones won’t be so popular now or in the future?

This is horrendous. Especially since in my opinion, phones launched at the beginning of WP (high end at the time) are now mid-range, and I really hope WP won’t go so low as to start allowing phones with HVGA or QVGA  resolution which is an abyssmal sin in 2012, like Android does. WVGA should still remain minimum, so really, what’s the point of this? To allow manufacturers to include 256MB ram instead of 512MB ?
