I get the impression that a lot of the Kindle’s success in the past has been with people who don’t want to read from a backlit screen. As the article mentions, I think they’ll have to keep the eInk versions alongside the Fire simply because people prefer it for reading.

I guess the Fire’s success depends on how well Amazon can push their multimedia library. That one might be a bit more of an uphill struggle.

A LCD e-reader would be okay for me as i am a casual reader, but also want other entertainment options like games, movies, songs all packaged in one device. Carrying two devices would not be suitable for me who is travelling a lot.

I’ve got a 2nd gen eInk Kindle for reading and i love it just for that. Reading on a LCD tablet is much, *much* better when it comes to magazines and newspapers to be honest, but for any simple text novel, eInk is king.

I use an e-ink reader for reading… Tried a LCD device for reading but there are two major problems… 1. The backlit screen and the glare causes eye strain when you are reading for a long time… 2. Battery times are very limited on LCD devices, whereas I can read 3-4 books on my e-ink reader before having to recharge it…

Both sounds logical, especially if you’re a big reader. Personally, an LCD device and actual books is a pretty good combination, although I’m thinking about picking up an e-ink reader simply because of convenience. Reading on the bus every day is a great pastime, but I keep lugging around 2 books or more to read. Or I can, but I’m getting less-willing to do so.
