I expected the phone to drain its battery faster than my old HTC Touch Pro II, given its much faster CPU and bigger screen. I did not quite expect the time from 100% to 10% to be less than six hours.

Now "power user" or not, people buy such machines expecting to get at least an office day's work out of it, syncing their email, doing the occasional web lookup or tweet - perhaps even be so bold as to hook up to a local wifi-point and downloading a file. If you have to carry around all the equipment for recharging the thing all the time because it doesn't last six hours, that kind of defeats the purpose of presenting it as a mobile device.

So far, I've recalibrated the battery gauge via the four-coloured screen, and I'm now running WMLongLife (with mixed results concerning its control of connectivity by background applications), I've decreased syncing frequencies across the board, dimmed the screen, but still the indications are not good - and that's without the frequent phone calls and other stuff of a regular busy day.

I've heard stories about people managing - without special measures - to make their HD2 last a day or more, even with the use of internet services, syncing and so on, but for the life of me, I wouldn't know how to do the same with *my* HD2. I'm starting to think that there may be some truth in the speculations about batches of faulty batteries.

Anybody here had similar experiences, and managed to resolve them (without buying a new battery; that would be cheating)?

oh and to comment more on battery life, I am definitely a power abuser with this thing I dont have a computer so my phone has to perform like one, I have at -least- 5 apps running constant, music playing, internet running, texting 4 or 5 people at once, 3 convos on aim, email, not to mention im a fb addict, I have like 8 gigs of music on the sd, ive downloaded about 15 apps that I use daily, and not one bit of lag,and not one soft reset or battery pull. OH and I can have all of that going on while being on an actual phone call... you just have to know what youre doing with it, and with all of that going on at once in a hand held device you can expect any battery to drain pretty quick, im looking into a second battery and maybe a charger dock so I can keep one charging on the wall while the full one is in use, not sure if they make anything like that but ill soon find out.

winmo is complex and hard to use, until you accommodate yourself to it, in the first week or two I did alot of soft resets and one hard reset and contemplated getting something else, but I knew this thing had potential, so I researched and found that if you get cht and cleanram (and keep your task manager in a quick link and keep it empty) you will be pleasantly surprised to see what this phone can do. this is BY FAR the best phone ive ever handled. I suggest if your looking at getting a smartphone you buy an hd2 dont let the batt life scare you off. and give it some time and get used to the way winmo works. the tmobile rep (who owned an hd2 himself) warned me as soon as I picked up the phone that it runs winmo, then I told him I loved my omnia and am experienced with winmo and he said well then this phone is for you. get used to the way it works and do some research.. at this point I couldn't imagine having any other phone (though tmobile needs to get some stronger service coverage) conclusion: the few minor problems are totally made up for, get an hd2 dl cht and cleanram, get rid of all the preloaded junk and you'll have a 4.3" computer screen in your hand.
