Never expected to use that phrase, but I really _am_ getting too old for this s***. Tablets / netbooks? I don't even consider laptops - still using a desktop PC at home, and that's what I'll be getting next time I upgrade as well... although, ever since I stopped being a heavy gamer, I can no longer find any sane justification for spending $$$ on a hardware upgrade - I can watch youtube fine just as it is, on years-old hardware...

"why wouldn't you buy the latest generation of tablets, unless you hate typing on the screen?"

Not necessarily hating but the current crop of tablet OS UIs are still ill equipped to provide true artificial tactile response alternative to phys keys. We're getting there but until then tablets are still the worst choice for content creation productivity.

Downloading multimedia files for later consumption, minor tweeting and e-mails don't count as productivity.

Its not a dead tech, these netbooks can actually get your work done.
Unlike your fancy iPads and Galaxy Tab which are just made for show off.

acer transformer is the right choice. you have a netbook or a tablet, depends what you want. for a cafe bar downtown, you can just take the tablet, at home for writing e-mails, you can connect the keyboard. this is the future. i hope they will do this for 12" tablets. 10" it's just to small to use as a everyday computer.
