Nokia seems happy investing in Microsoft's OS, seeing the potential for the future of Windows virtually unlimited. Through their own efforts Nokia have established themselves as THE Windows Phone manufacturer, WAY beyond HTC and Samsung. That's investment whose returns they are going to see real soon. If they didn't see it coming, they wouldn't be releasing all their apps for the entire Windows ecosystem instead of just their own hardware. They know they are going to be the infrastructure that powers the Windows platform.

As a consumer though, that is not my concern. My concern is hopefully preventing a good company from using a simply mediocre mobile OS that has become prevalent through pure luck; that is my personal preference. Still, looking at how everyone using Android -- except Samsung -- is struggling to make any money out of that OS, I believe Nokia made the right call investing in an ecosystem in which they could compete and come out as winners instead of wasting resources releasing mediocre phones after phones only to find Samsung, the king of mediocrity, looking down on them just like they are doing with HTC.

Nokia has a chance with Windows for its future. Microsoft isn't a vision-less and unstable company giving up on the mobile industry, as they know mobile is the future and are kings of the corporate world.

Nokia have their eggs in the right basket, and I think are doing the right thing not giving in to the pressure of using an uninspired piece of bloated software. They are now in a league of their own.

I understand when you say "right", but other's probably won't. You basically mean a true upgrade from Symbian, an upgrade which is worth paying. Whereas WP is like downgrading, with little multitasking and true apps. :)

I totally agree, Windows XP/7 > Symbian > Android. :)
Mac OS > iOS/iPhone.

Just to clarify, this is indeed true. Look at Barnes & Noble HD+, they have ICS on their devies, but it is so heavily modified, you wouldn't be able to tell it's Android. It doesn't even offer Google Play, or even YouTube. It offers a stock browser, but that has also been modified.

Barnes & Noble took AOSP, and heavily modified it, so it's no longer "Android" and placed it on their devices.

Android isn't optimised to adapt to more than two cores, so more cores will not reduce lag. Dual-core is good enough, and quad-core is perfect.
X phone wont be enough.
What google should do, is to join forces with intel, and push Tizen, to force Samsung to use that in more high-end products.

I will say in 2012 Samsung virtually had the field to itself cuz there wasn't much of a challenge from other Android OEM. HTC had the best device for a challenge but they held up the One X and One X+ with bone head exclusives, also a few missing specs and failure to advertise that baby. Well 2013 will be different...there will be a stronger challenge from HTC ONE, Sony Xperia Z, ZL, LG Optimus G pro, Moto X phone, etc
