Vast majority (almost all) of people that I know dont know how to build a pc themselves, no matter how many times you are gonna say that “its easy”. Stop living in a dream world. I always chuckle when I read comments on tech sites, where people think that everyone in the world is tech savvy.

I *hope* I will never see the desktop die. I like being able to be productive on my desktop with a mechanical keyboard, surround sound and a large, bright screen. Not to mention X86 compatibility.

“…don’t believe in the power of tablets” – speaking of power, iPads are have stronger chips than iPhones of the same generation. There are MANY alternatives that can FULLY process .doc and .docx formats. Even on a PC, a LOT of techies don’t even use Microsoft Office. And I personally, find its UI and design annoying. Tablets and smartphones can do pretty much anything, plus using all of their sensors like accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetic field sensor, light sensor, proximity sensor, barometer (in certain devices) etc. Those sensors can be used for all kinds of tasks, speedometer, compass, measure the pressure, metal detector etc. Even programming (e.g. native C++ language) can be adapted to tablets and smartphones. The only thing that a PC could do what a smartphone couldn’t do is load games made specifically for PCs. But even then, there’s an app called OnLive, which allows you to play MANY games made on PCs, PS3, XBOX 360 (etc.) on your mobile platform. I can play Saint’s Row 3 or Collin McRae Dirt 3 or Batman Arkham Asylum/City on my smartphone.

And your P.S., you should not say “pretty sure”, because you’re not fully aware of both platforms’ capabilities. iPhones have a lot more cons than pros comparing to Android. But I’ll not discuss it because that’d go off the topic.
