European General Court upholds 1.06 billion euro Intel fine

Back in 2009 Intel agreed to pay AMD $1.25 billion in an antitrust settlement, but the battle wasn’t over – the European commission had a separate case against the leading chip maker. Intel was appealing that decision but five years later the commission has passed its final verdict.

“The Commission found that Intel’s conduct had undermined competition and innovation.” Intel was ordered to stop its practices and was fined €1.06 billion

Intel appealed in front of the General Court but it upheld the Commission’s findings so now the chip giant will have to pay up. Here are Intel’s sins:

  • Paying off three computer makers to “halt, delay or limit” certain products based on AMD products
  • Paid retailer Media Markt for selling only Intel-based PCs
  • It granted rebates to server manufacturers Dell, HP, NEC and Lenovo in return for getting all their supplies from Intel
