Cortana will be available in Canada upon Windows Phone 8.1 launch

Janet Kennedy, Microsoft Canada President, has detailed the Cortana availability. As it turns out Canada will be among the first wave of countries to get the virtual assistant upon the update rollout.

Microsoft has previously announced the first market where Cortana will be available is USA. The UK and China will be getting the same treatment and now it turns out Cortana will be localized for Canada in time too.

The Canadian Cortana was even demonstrated at the Canadian Telecom Summit and it was working just fine.

The Windows Phone 8.1 Developer’s Preview turned out a huge success for Microsoft with very positive feedback and massive adoption rate even though it’s still in beta. This made Microsoft revaluate its strategy and focus on bringing Cortana as fast as possible to even more markets in the first few months after the update is released.

Note that Cortana can still be enabled on any Windows Phone rocking 8.1 by simply changing your region to USA or other country, where the assistant is available. Most of the functionality, including the navigation, will work for you though of course, it would have a different English accent.
