New ASUS MeMo Pad commercial features Santa

With the holiday season drawing closer the annual wave of Christmas-themed ads is coming steadily and instilling that particular cheery mindset that fuels shopping sprees. ASUS is definitely no stranger to the tradition and has just released a Christmas-flavored promotional video for its MeMo Pad.

Toshiba TT301 Android tablet can lend its 24″ screen to a PC

Toshiba unveiled the TT301, aka The Shared Board. It’s a 24″ 1080p tablet that also doubles as an HDMI monitor if you hook it up to a TV or you can use it as a wireless display via Miracast. It weighs only around 1.8kg (remember it’s 24″ big) and packs two 2W speakers.

Toshiba also included its own implementation of split-screen multitasking, but it seems it’s limited to only two apps at a time (Samsung’s Multi Window can do up to 4 split-screened apps, plus floating apps). Read more »

Apple releases new iPad Air 2 commercial

Apple recently launched the new iPad Air 2, which is the company’s thinnest and most powerful tablet so far. The original Air was already a super thin tablet but the new one is even thinner while being more powerful and having similar battery life.

The company has now released a new commercial for the product. The video is similar to all of Apple’s recent ones; just concentrate on the product and features, particularly the great third party apps available for the platform and just let the product do the talking. Read more »

Jolla Tablet passes $1.5 million in funding, gets 128GB microSD support

Last week, Jolla updated its extremely successful crowdfunding campaign for its first tablet by adding a few “stretch goals”. Once reached, each of these would enable a new feature for the Jolla Tablet.

The first milestone was at $1.5 million raised, and that has now been passed. So this effectively means that the Jolla Tablet will support microSDHC cards up to 128GB in capacity. Read more »

Jolla has added an official case for its upcoming tablet. Made by the Finnish company Lastu, the flip cover is available to order alongside the Jolla Tablet on Indiegogo for $49.

IDC: Google Chromebooks preferred over Apple iPads in schools

According to the latest IDC Q3 report regarding bulk tech purchases for education needs, Google Chromebooks are now preferred by the majority of schools than Apple iPads. While the lead of Chromebooks in the education sphere isn’t jaw dropping, it’s a sign that many schools prefer the cheaper, yet functional Chromebook alternative.

Chromebooks lead the way with 715,500 units, whereas the iPads have slipped to 702,000. The laptops running Chrome OS sell as low as $199 and are made by a range of manufacturers including Samsung, HP, Dell and Acer. Read more »

Newest Nexus 9 batches come with improved buttons, less light bleed

The initial batches of Nexus 9 tablets manufactured by HTC apparently suffer from having hardware power and volume buttons which are hard to press, and have almost no travel. Additionally, the tablet’s screen has been found to suffer from pretty extensive light bleed.

It looks like HTC was made aware of these issues, and has already fixed them in the newest batches of Nexus 9s being sent to buyers. Read more »

Archos fully unveils the 80 Cesium tablet – a €150 Windows 8.1 tablet

Archos did its usual pre-IFA mass announcement of multiple devices, including the Windows 8.1 running Archos 80 Cesium. Little was known about it other than that it was supposed to launch in October. Better late than never I suppose.

The 80 Cesium belongs to the line of very affordable Windows tablets – €150 in this case – and it comes with the usual concessions. Read more »

Jolla Tablet gets additional funding goals to finance new features

Today Jolla has announced three “stretch goals” for its already highly successful tablet project. If reached, these funding goals will allow the company to bake in some additional features for the tablet.

The Jolla Tablet, you may remember, is financed through crowdfunding. It’s been a great campaign so far, with the company initially asking for $380,000 and receiving pledges of more than $1 million in just two days. Read more »

New E-Label act might dispose of ugly FCC mark on back of Apple devices

President Obama signed the E-Label act today, proposed back in July. The new regulation allows manufacturers to remove the physical FCC markings from certain electronic devices and display them inside the software instead.

Currently American companies are required by law to place certain regulatory texts and stamps on their devices and the FCC stamp is arguably the ugliest of the bunch. Read more »

HP Slate 6 Voice Tab II launches in India for $260

The HP Slate 6 Voice Tab II has just launched in the Indian market from the official HP Online store. It is priced at $260 (INR 15,990) and will soon be officially launched.

The device bears a lot of resemblance to the previous version of the tablet (HP Slate 6 Voice Tab) with the same 6″ 1280 x 720 pixel IPS display and a Marvell PXA1088 chipset with a CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz. Read more »

Jolla adds Australia and Canada to list of countries for Jolla Tablet

Jolla recently started an Indigogo campaign for their upcoming tablet, which met with an incredible response, helping them achieve almost 300% of their initial target within a few days.

The company had originally decided upon China, Hong Kong, India, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, and United States as the countries that it will be shipping the tablet to. But after the overwhelming response, the company decided to ask people which other countries they would like to see the tablet being shipped to. After several votes, the company has decided to add Australia and Canada to the list. Read more »
