Tablet makers accused of overcharging for internal storage

Apple, Google, and Amazon have all been accused of marking up costs of additional storage options for their tablet offerings in order to boost their profits.

A report out of popular tech review site Which? indicates that manufacturers like Apple pay roughly £6 to manufacture a tablet variant with an additional 16GB of storage, yet charge £80 to customers – a markup of 1267%. Read more »

Education-focused tablet by Nintendo in the works

According to several tweets published by Nintendo software engineer Nando Monterazo, the company is hard at work creating an Android tablet with a focus on education. Judging from his writings, the Android slate is going to be used by kids, who will get access to various educational games.

Those games, naturally, will have classic Nintendo characters in them. However, Monterazo points out that old-school Nintendo games won’t be coming to the upcoming tablet. NES, Super Nintendo, and Game Boy games will not be available for the unnamed Nintendo tablet, as “educational games only” will be the focus. Read more »

Samsung looking to eclipse Apple and ship 100 million tablets in 2014

Apple’s stranglehold of the tablet market may be coming to an end next year, as Samsung has polled its supply chain to ship an even greater amount of tablets in 2014. The Korean company’s ambitions amount to some 100 million units.

This follows reports of a sizeable increase in tablet market share in Q3 2013 where Samsung was able to ship almost 10 million units, an increase of 123% over the same period in 2012. Read more »

A Reddit user claiming to be an employee at carrier Telefonica has leaked out two images of what is allegedly the LG-made Nexus 10 tablet.

The tablet looks pretty similar to the current-gen Nexus 10 that’s made by Samsung. The image suggests the model number of the upcoming Google table is LG-V510. Read more »

Android tablet revenue temporarily inches ahead of iPad

Android pretty much rules smartphones in terms of market share, but Apple held a firm grasp on tablets. In the third quarter this year things changed though and Android tablets surpassed iPads in revenue for the first time ever.

According to an analyst from Morgan Stanley, Android-powered tablets raked in 46.2% of the revenue, while iPads took 45.6% home. Read more »
