Microsoft is now rolling out a minor software update to its Surface Pro 3. The patch comes to address the complaints about the Wi-Fi performance of the tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 rocks a potent Exynos chipset with an octa-core CPU in a great looking 6.6mm thick shell. However, several early adopters have noticed that the tablet is overheating when put through its paces and this leads to unwanted consequences.

Asus Transformer TF701T receives Android 4.4.2 KitKat update

Asus is currently pushing an update for the Transformer TF701T tablet to Android 4.4.2. The OTA update takes the tablet from Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to a more recent version of KitKat, but the company isn’t bragging about it as there’s no official information on exactly what the update changes.

Nevertheless, our tipster who has received the update in Spain, says that there’s now a Powered by Android logo added to the boot animation. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 now available on AT&T

AT&T is now offering the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 on its network and the tablet can be purchased online. The carrier will start selling the slate in its brick and mortar stores from July 25.

Free group video calls now possible on Skype for Windows tablets

Skype has announced a new update today, and this one enables you to do free group video calls if you use a Windows tablet or a “2 in 1 device” (which presumably refers to convertible laptops).

You have to be running Windows 8.1 on your device, though, as Windows 8 isn’t supported. If you do qualify, however, using this feature seems to be very straightforward. Read more »

An LG Nexus tablet pops up in an import manifest

According to manifest documents from Indian imports tracker Zauba, somebody has brought a prototype LG Nexus tablet into the country. It sounds pretty reasonable to guess that this may as well be the Nexus 8 we saw mentioned earlier this month in a similar manifest.

Of course, it may as well be a 10-inch slate as it’s been a while since Google released theirs. Interestingly, the last two compact Nexus tablets were made by Asus and both received stellar reviews so it would be surprising to see Google move production to LG. Read more »

Samsung has published two new videos advertising the recently released Galaxy Tab S flagship slates. The first one demonstrates the Tab S multi-tasking capabilities and compares them to…an iPad, of course.

LG G Pad 7.0 and G Pad 10.1 already up for grabs in the US

LG has announced that two of the three tablets that make up its mid-range roster have gone on sale in the US today. They are the G Pad 7.0 and the G Pad 10.1.

Intriguingly, there was no mention of the G Pad 8.0 in LG’s press release, which may mean that particular model won’t officially be headed to the US. Or it could simply come later. Read more »

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet lands at Verizon on July 17

Verizon has just announced that it’s going to be exclusively selling the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet starting on July 17. It will go up for pre-order tomorrow.

If you want to get the five-month old tablet from the carrier, you’ll need to shell out $499.99 and sign a two-year contract as you’d expect. Read more »

Microsoft’s latest Surface Pro 3 slate has been plagued by some serious Wi-Fi connectivity issues since its release a few weeks ago. The early adopters hoped Microsoft will resolve their issues with an upcoming update, and as it turns out they’ll only have to wait a few more days.

There is already an update rolling out for the Surface Pro 3 focusing on “Wireless network controller and Bluetooth”, but unfortunately it doesn’t fix the Wi-Fi connectivity problems. Read more »

Mobile device shipments to exceed 2.4 billion in 2014 – tablets almost reach PCs

This year will see another big rise among smart devices shipped to retailers and sold to customers – by its end more than 2.43 billion units will have left the manufacturing facilities which compares nicely to to 2013′s 2.34 billion.

The numbers come from Gartner which breaks them down by traditional PCs, ultrabooks and premium laptops, tablets and mobile phones. Interestingly the PC market will account for 308 million devices with tablets closing in at 256 million. Gartner’s projection for 2015 is that tablets will overtake PCs with roughly 4 million more shipments. Read more »

Amazon.com drops 10″ Asus VivoTab RT TF600T tablet to just $175

The Asus VivoTab RT TF600T is getting on two years old now and Amazon is clearing out its stock by slashing the original price to just $175. The Windows RT platform is drying up on the vine, but getting a 10.1″ tablet under $200 is still a pretty good deal.

LG starts rolling out G Pad 10.1 in global markets

LG unveiled a trio of new G Pad tablets – G Pad 7.0, G Pad 8.0 and G Pad 10.1. The slates were showcased at the MedPi 2014 trade show in Monaco earlier this year, but there was no word on the availability of these devices.

Today, LG has announced the global launch of G Pad 10.1. The company’s largest tablet will be up for grabs in United States followed by other markets in Europe, Asia and Latin America later this month. The pricing hasn’t been detailed as they are said to vary from each market. Read more »
