8-inch Kingsing W8 tablet runs Windows 8 on a $100 budget

by 30 comments

It may sound unlikely but some manufacturers of Windows 8 tablets are trying to bring the price fight to Android with $100 tablets. Back in June we saw the 8″ Emdoor EM-i8080 and now the Kingsing W8 enters the stage.

The Kingsing W8 is powered by a quad-core Intel Bay Trail-T processor clocked at 1.8GHz paired with Intel HD graphics. This is proper Windows 8 too, not the failed RT branch. Read more »

Microsoft Surface 3 may be coming in October with 10.6″ screen, slim design

The Intel-powered full-Windows running Surface Pro 3 (which is pictured below) was made official by Microsoft back in May. Yet so far the Surface 2 with Windows RT hasn’t had a successor. That, however, may come in October, if a new rumor is to be believed.

Reportedly originating at a source inside a Taiwan-based supply chain maker, it claims we’ll see a new 10.6-inch Surface tablet this year. Read more »

LG G Pad 10.1 hands-on

by 10 comments

The LG G Pad 10.1 is the biggest member in this year’s G Pad lineup by LG. Despite having the largest screen (10.1″ vs 8″ and 7″) it carries the same underwhelming resolution of 1280x800px as the rest of the new G Pad pack.

The quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset is in charge of running everything while the latest Optimus UI on top of Android 4.4.2 KitKat adorns the software side of things. Alongside the midrange chipset and low resolution, LG has included some features that will turn the G Pad 10.1 into a somewhat potent multimedia machine. Read more »

Grovemade Walnut iPad Air case flash review

by 15 comments

The Grovemade Walnut case for iPad Air is designed to be a more distinctive alternative to Apple’s own Smart Case for the slate. As its name suggests, the high-end accessory is handcrafted in the United States from natural walnut.

Based in Portland, Oregon, Grovemade designs and creates accessories exclusively for Apple devices. The small company’s products use locally sourced materials (there’s plenty of timber in Oregon) and combine eye-grabbing design and high ergonomics. Read more »

LG G Pad 7.0 hands-on

by 36 comments

Today we have the LG G Pad 7.0 at HQ. This is the latest portable tablet from LG but it’s safe to say we’re expecting a higher-end portable tablet yet as the G Pad 7 sheds the premium specs package in favor of a very affordable price.

The LG G Pad 7.0 base specs may not sound like much with only a 800 x 1280 pixels screen and a Snapdragon 400 processor, but LG has equipped it with several extra features to make up for those – an IR blaster on the top, stereo speakers on the back and an IPS matrix for superior screen viewing angles all for under 200 euro. Samsung: Galaxy Tab S 8.4 doesn’t overheat, faulty back panel to blame

by 43 comments

Last week a couple of pictures surfaced showing a deformed back panel on an apparently overheating Exynos-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4.

According to the information received by early adopters the slate would get so hot that it would cause its thin plastic back panel to bend at certain spots. Now Samsung has officially addressed the issue saying the problem lies with a limited number of defective back covers and the processor isn’t to blame or fear. Read more »

32GB Nexus 7 (2012) is once again offered for GBP 99 in the UK

by 20 comments

The last time we’ve seen a great deal for the UK on the original Nexus 7 tablet from 2012 was this January. It was then when the device went for only £99. If you missed that chance to get it this cheap, though, fret not for it’s once again being offered at the same low price.

Apparently £99.99 is exactly half off the tablet’s normal price, so you’re saving quite a bit here. On the other hand, it is pretty old hardware (if you go by how fast the mobile world moves), so that sort of explains the price cut. Read more »
