Samsung’s telephony-enabled smartwatch to be called Gear Solo

Some people are unhappy that smartwatches need the support of smartphones to do anything interesting. Those people would prefer if smartwatches could do at it alone – according to The Korea Herald, Samsung will make just such a watch, dubbed Samsung Gear Solo.

Samsung has filed a patent with the Korean Intellectual Property Office for the Gear Solo name, but that name might change before the smartwatch hits the market. Read more »

Will.i.am will release a smartwatch in July

It seems that they’ll let just about anyone make a smartwatch these days.

Will.i.am of Black Eyed peas fame, a former Blackberry proponent, and Intel’s Director of Creative Innovation, has announced that he plans on releasing a smartwatch this July. He was even wearing a prototype of the device on Alan Carr’s show: Chatty Man. Read more »

Samsung Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit now available in the UK

The Samsung Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit smartwatches were expected to hit UK stores on April 11 alongside the Galaxy S5 upcoming flagship. However, if you can’t wait that long, we have some good news as at least one retailer has received their stock earlier.

The Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit are in stock now over at UnlockedMobiles, costing £179.98 just as expected. Your only color option is black at this point, with the other colors expected to become available once the Galaxy S5 is launched on April 11. Read more »

Moto 360 may have a sapphire glass and wireless charging support

Motorola unveiled the first smartwatch, the Moto 360, something many people have been waiting for. But the company kept most details a secret – we know little except it on the new Android Wear platform, so we have to rely on rumors to fill in the blanks.

Pebble has probably never even dreamed of raising 100 times the funding it wanted on Kickstarter a while ago. The first Pebble smartwatches entered mass production in January 2013 and begun shipping the same month.

Pebble Steel with a leather band now sells for $229

In the light of the recent announcements made by Google, Samsung and Motorola, Pebble has decided to cut the price of its steel Pebble watch with a leather band by $20. Now, the watch sales for $229 on the Pebble online store.

As it currently stands, the Pebble Steel with a leather band is $30 more expensive than the Samsung Gear Fit and $70 cheaper than the Galaxy Gear 2. Motorola and LG haven’t announced pricing for their respective smartwatches yet. Read more »

Upcoming Samsung Gear smartwatch model to come with telephony

Samsung’s Gear 2 line of smartwatches was unveiled at MWC last month running on Tizen OS and providing calling, messaging and notification capabilities from a paired Galaxy smartphone.

A rumored next generation of the Gear 2 will supposedly do away with the pairing requirement, and be able to provide calling capabilities through an integrated SIM slot. Read more »
