Samsung to buy 3% stake of Sharp for $110 million

Samsung is all set to buy 3% stake of the Japanese electronics manufacturer Sharp, who is currently struggling and trying to re-build its operations. Sharp has been mounting up with losses and has had a hard time raising funds after its credit rating status was changed last year.

The partnership with the South Korean firm might just be the breakthrough the company is looking for, to get back to the winning ways. Samsung can also be one of the key consumers of Sharp’s products and can surely help the struggling company to improve its production and operations. Read more »

Images of next Apple iPad case leaks, suggests slimmer body and thinner bezels

Apple is already working on its next generation iPad and the design has allegedly already leaked in China. As a result we get these images of a case, which is supposedly a custom fit for the upcoming fifth generation of the iPad. The popular accessory maker MiniSuit claims to have got the specifications and the design from a reliable source.

Microsoft might unveil the successor of Xbox 360 in April

The much awaited next generation gaming console from Microsoft is rumored to be showcased in the month of April. According to a report from Computer and Video Games, Redmond is currently planning to hold a press event in the month of April and the successor of the Xbox 360, which is reportedly named Xbox 720, might be unveiled in the event.

Is HTC about to release the first Ubuntu slate at its event tonight?

Canonical, which recently announced it’s developing Ubuntu for smartphones, has put a peculiar countdown on the ubuntu.com website saying “Tick, tock, tablet time!”

Interestingly, the timer coincides with the one on the HTC website, which will end at the start of the company’s press events in London and New York. The Taiwanese company is set to announce its new One flagship smartphone at the event, but could we also see an Ubuntu tablet debut there? Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 rumored to launch in March, priced to compete with iPad mini

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 has leaked so frequently in the past couple of months (heck, even Samsung’s head of Mobile Communications confirmed it), that the device may as well be out already.

The latest news about the compact tablet is that it’s set to hit retail in Europe at the end of March for around €359 for the WiFi only version (€449 if you throw 3G into the mix). Compare this to €329 for the iPad mini (€429 with 3G), and you can see that Samsung aim to directly compete with the smaller iPad with their upcoming product. Read more »

ASUS might showcase its Intel powered 7-inch Fonepad tablet at MWC

7-inch Intel-based tablet was expected to be a part of the Asus CES campaign, but for one reason or another it missed the US show. However, Asus has not given up on it and it might be showcasing it at the upcoming MWC in Barcelona.

The tablet has a model designation ME371MG will be Asus Fonepad, according to a POSTEL database. Another leak, this time from the internal system of an online retailer points to a price tag of 7,900 Thai baht (about $265). Read more »

Asus ME301T MemoPad 10 press images leak

Only a few days into this year several Asus tablets leaked – a couple of 7” models and a 10” one. The 7-inchers are already official, but their larger sibling is not. Its press images come ahead of the official announcement though, so here’s the Asus ME301T MemoPad 10.

Currently available info points to a 10.1” screen of 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution and a Tegra 3 chipset (quad-core Cortex-A9 with a fifth power-saving core, GeForce graphics, 1GB of RAM). The tablet will sport 16GB of built-in storage and probably a microSD card too. Read more »

UA profiles for next-gen Samsung Galaxy tablets leak, we may see a Galaxy Note with the Nexus 10 screen

User Agent profiles are a long time favorite of the rumor mill and they deliver again – three new model designations of Samsung tablets were discovered, presumably the Tab 3 series. The profiles give nothing but model number and screen resolution, but with a bit mode digging, we found out a bit more.

The top-end model is the GT-P8200, which packs a 2,560 x 1,600 pixel screen, the same as the Google Nexus 10 (manufactured by Samsung). AnTuTu scores for the P8200 list the OS as 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and the CPU clock speed as 1.7GHz. Read more »

Samsung GC110 found in Bluetooth SIG docs, may be a Wi-Fi only Galaxy Camera for Europe

The Samsung Galaxy Camera GC100 managed the impossible – it’s an Android-powered camera that actually went on sale, rather than remain in perpetual “announced” limbo. However, it might have company soon as a filing for Bluetooth certification revealed the GC110 model number.

Unfortunately, info is very scarce – the filing came from Samsung (with Geographic availability listed as “Europe”) and it’s about Bluetooth 4.0 capability (which is what the GC100 has). Read more »

It seems yesterday’s photos of the Galaxy Note 8.0 are the real deal. A newly leaked image shows the slate with its emblematic S-Pen standing alongside its Note II sibling.

Samsung trademarks Eye Scroll and Eye Pause, are they Smart Stay 2.0?

Samsung has been quite busy with maximizing the usefulness of the front-facing camera of its smartphones. So far it has Smart Stay, Smart rotate and face unlock with slightly better security. A couple of trademark filings reveal that two more features might be no the way – Eye Scroll and Eye Pause.

The filings are just to trademark the name and don’t include any info on what the two features are yet (at least no info has been made public yet). Still, it’s easy to imagine what they might do. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 photos leak ahead of the official announcement

The Galaxy Note 8.0 slate was already confirmed by JK Shin – the head of Samsung Mobile Communications. The official announcement is expected to happen at MWC 2013 next month in Barcelona.

We already know the specs of the device – it will be powered by the same quad-core platforms as the Note 10.1, but will come with an 8.0″ display of 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. Now we also got to see the first real world images of the tablet. Read more »
