After Samsung’s recent benchmark boosting situation came to light, a lot was talked about how it made the process of benchmarking devices and comparing scores with other handsets irrelevant. But out of all the benchmark software developers out there, Futuremark, developers of 3DMark, were the only ones who delisted the offending Samsung devices from their benchmark scores to keep things fair.

However, in the latest Android 4.4.2 update issued to the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3, Samsung removed the code that allowed the benchmarking apps to run faster than any other normal app on the device. The Facebook Beta app for Windows Phone devices has received a slight update bringing it to version v5.2.4.1. The release brings some bug fixes and minor changes.

With the Windows Phone 8.1 moniker being confirmed a couple of times already by Microsoft, Nokia has been quick to update its cool Glance app and make it support the upcoming update of the OS.

The update now lives in the Windows Phone store and the only thing that Nokia has added is “Support for Windows Phone 8.1″. We don’t know if Nokia had to do a lot of modifications to the app to make it work, but certainly the Finns have made Glance play nice with any new APIs that WP 8.1 might bring along. Read more »

Motorola introduced a refreshed camera interface with the Moto X and later on released it as a standalone self-titled camera app in the Google Play store.

Google has added two new voice commands to the Search app on Android that will let you launch the camera on your phone or tablet using just your voice.

If you need to take a picture, all you have to do is hit the microphone button or say “Ok Google” and then say the voice command “Take a picture”. If you want to record a video, say “Record a video” instead. If you think this is not very useful, then you are absolutely right. Read more »

Last year, Microsoft released a version of Office for the iOS platform but it wasn’t what everyone had expected. For starters, it was only available on the iPhone and not the iPad where it would be more suitable and secondly, it was a free app that was limited to only those who had an Office 365 subscription.

Microsoft will now be rectifying the first problem by unveiling the iPad version of the ‘Office Mobile for Office 365 subscribers’ on March 27 at an event in San Francisco. Replicant, a third party developer of an open source Android distribution, claims to have stumbled on a backdoor program that makes it possible for the modem to modify the phone’s onboard storage.
