The Chinese chipmaker Allwinner took the wraps off a 64-bit tablet-friendly chipset with incredibly low price tag. Allwinner A64 brings 4K display support to mobile devices for only $5.

Samsung to start mass production of ePoP smartphone memory

The Korean tech giant has announced today that it will start mass production of what is essentially the world’s first ePoP memory module. The technology has been around for some time now, but it is only now reaching consumer marketing potential.

ePoP stands for “embedded package on package” memory. The major revolution Samsung has achieved with the new technology is to create a single memory package, containing a 3GB LPDDR3 DRAM module and a 32GB eMMC (embedded multi-media card) and controller. Read more »

January 21 marked an important milestone for Microsoft as the Windows 10 Next chapter event took place and revealed an amazing amount of new information concerning the future of the popular OS on both desktop and portable devices. One of the things that became abundantly clear is that us tech giant is really making progress and investing in its new One Windows philosophy.

Windows 10 on smartphones and tablets will essentially share the core of the full distribution and more importantly will support a uniform app ecosystem that allows the same applications to be used seamlessly across the entire range of Windows 10-powered devices. This is all very exciting, but even though Microsoft cleared the smoke around a lot of aspects of the new OS there are still some pressing questions of availability and future devices. As we have already reported, the new OS will surely be available for the Microsoft Lumia 435, 735 and 930 and if Microsoft keeps its word, most other current Lumia devices as well. LG displays ends 2014 with record profit

LG Display released its financial report for the fiscal 2014 highlighting a record operating profit of $1.245 billion. That’s 16.7% more than the year before and the largest increase the LG subsidiary saw in the last six years.

The reason for the boost is a strong increase in demand of LCD panels and partly because of the deal between LG Display and Apple for the production of iPhone screens. Read more »

Leaked roadmap reveals plans for a MediaTek 20nm octa-core SoC by the end of 2015

MediaTek seems to be gathering increasing support from device manufacturers and users all around. The Taiwanese chip maker used to mainly target the budget segment, but recent CPU MT CPUs have been performing admirably on mid-ranged devices and beyond.

A rather interesting roadmap graphic surfaced on the Chinese social network Weibo, supposedly revealing the company’s plans from the upcoming year in terms of chip production. Intel unveils its Broadwell (Gen 5) processors

Intel has officially unveiled its 5th generation lineup covering everything from Celerons to Core i7s for anything from ultrabooks to All-in-One computers. The 5th gen chips (aka Broadwell) are the first to be built on a 14nm process, down from Haswell’s 22nm.
