$30,000 diamond-encrusted Apple Watch available for preorder

Wearable tech appears to be here to stay and the Apple Watch is the long anticipated future entrant to the fast-growing niche. It is set to arrive sometime early next year, but it appears that the smartwatch has already captivated the attention of the of the luxury world and in particular the American diamond importer Mervis.

It appears that it is never too early to reimagine a fashion accessory, as the prestigious company recently published a diamond-covered version of the Apple wearable on their Facebook page. The exquisite device is up for preorder with delivery dates set for the middle of 2015. The smart piece of Apple-powered jewelry is priced at $30,150, which coincidentally is around the price of an entry-level Chevrolet Camaro, but put into the right perspective sounds like a good deal. Messenger app Viber introduces games with a limited launch

Popular IM and voice call app Viber is expanding into games, following in the footsteps of its neighbors Line, WeChat and Kakao. Right now it’s a limited release with only three games and four countries, but will go in January, barring any show-stopping issues.

It’s been a busy year for Viber – it went after Skype with global landline and cellphone calls in December 2013, then it was acquired by Rakuten, launched a desktop app and even took a swing at Twitter with public chats. Read more »

Google Maps gets lane guidance in some European countries

On both iOS and Android, the Google Maps app has today received support for lane guidance for highways in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, and Ireland.

Lane guidance does what you’d expect it to, given the name. It ensures you’re always on the right lane, when you’re in turn-by-turn navigation mode. Read more »

BBM gets stickers in group chats, new design on iOS, support for Android 5.0 Lollipop

BlackBerry’s well known messaging app, BBM, has today been updated to version 2.6 on iOS, Android, and the company’s own smartphones.

Google’s app for iOS receives the Material Design treatment

After we’ve seen it update all of its Android apps to use the Material Design that it’s so proud of, Google has now apparently moved on to iOS. So the Google search app for Apple’s mobile OS is today getting an update to version 5.0.0, and one of the biggest new things is the addition of the Material Design language.

Additionally, there are a few new features in tow too. The Recents view shows you the pages you recently visited, the Google button lets you start a search with just one tap (wherever you are in the app), and Google Maps allows you to explore interactive maps, nearby places, and Street View right inside the search app (though only on iPhone for now). Speed test pits the iPhone 6 against the Nexus 6 and Galaxy Note 4

The age-old question – which device is faster? – has received an answer in a video, at least when it comes to the two current ‘kings’ of Android and Apple’s finest. Someone decided to pit the iPhone 6, Motorola Nexus 6, and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 against one another in a speed test of sorts.

The test itself is pretty simple. At the beginning, a timer is set on each device. Then, various apps and games are started, and the full desktop Amazon home page is loaded in the browser. Once one of the apps (or the website) has fully loaded, a tap on the Home button comes and it’s on to the next one. Read more »

Microsoft gifts 100 albums on Xbox Music

If you are using Microsoft’s Xbox Music streaming service, you can now download 100 popular albums for free. Microsoft is giving those away those albums to citizens in the USA only (damn licensing rights!), who are subscribers to its music app with Xbox Music Pass activated.

United Airlines will hand out 23,000 iPhone 6 Plus devices to its flight attendants

United Airlines announced that it will hand out 23,000 iPhone 6 Plus devices to its flight attendants. The airline will begin distributing Apple’s phablet during the second quarter of next year.

Carousel by Dropbox can now clear up storage on your device

Dropbox added new features to its Carousel gallery app for Android and iOS. Going forward users of the application will have automatic device storage management at their disposal.

Apple releases new iPad Air 2 commercial

Apple recently launched the new iPad Air 2, which is the company’s thinnest and most powerful tablet so far. The original Air was already a super thin tablet but the new one is even thinner while being more powerful and having similar battery life.

The company has now released a new commercial for the product. The video is similar to all of Apple’s recent ones; just concentrate on the product and features, particularly the great third party apps available for the platform and just let the product do the talking. Read more »

‘Game of Thrones – Episode 1 – Iron from Ice’ game review

Game of Thrones is the latest series of games from developer Telltale Games, who very recently brought us titles such as The Walking Dead series and The Wolf Among Us series.

Game of Thrones follows the episodic release nature of Telltale games and tells the story of House Forrester that happens concurrently with the fourth season of the eponymous TV series on HBO. Telltale released the first episode – Iron from Ice – on the PC, consoles, and iOS, and as usual we are talking a look at the mobile version today. Read more »

Twitter revamps filters in its mobile app

Twitter first introduced filters to its official app two years ago in December, now it’s time to actually make theм work well (the whole thing was a knee-jerk response to a soured relationship with Instagram).

I know there isn’t a shortage of messaging apps available on mobile devices but every once in a while something new comes up that manages to grab your attention. One such app is Wire.

Wire is a new messaging and calling app for Android, iOS (iPhone and iPad), and OS X, with a browser version arriving later. The app focuses on a simple, minimalist design with a gesture based interface for navigation. The UI features large, legible fonts with inline previews for images, YouTube, and SoundCloud links. Mockup video shows rumored 12.2 inch iPad Pro in size perspective

A 12 inch tablet by Apple has been a long standing rumor. Ever since January bits and pieces of the story, surrounding the mythical device have been surfacing. Last week we saw what is supposedly a 12.2 inch iPad Air, planned for next year.

Any specifics are not yet available and the whole story is pretty open to debate at this point, but it does seem that sooner or later Apple is bound to release a device in this size format. Read more »
