Quite a long time after the Android version of Chrome got its Material Design makeover, it’s now finally time for the iOS iteration to get the same treatment. Google has published a new version of Chrome in the iTunes App Store today, and the main new feature it comes with is Material Design.

According to the popular KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s rumored 12.9” iPad will launch with a touchscreen stylus. The latter is said to be an optional accessory for the upcoming slate.

Three men tunned into a warehouse in Beijing and stole 240 iPhone 6 units worth $300,000. The men have since then been arrested.

The men, one of whom worked as a driver for the warehouse owned by a Chinese logistic firm, dug a 20-inch hole through the building’s wall. The thieves then went about spending the money from selling the phones on gambling, cars, and gold. The police tracked down the serial numbers of the stolen phones, which led to their capture. Urban Armor Gear is specializing in making tough, rugged cases for smartphones and has tried a little different to test its products out. The company attached an iPhone 6 secured with one of its cases to a weather balloon and it managed to reach 30,480 meters.

Then it popped and the iPhone 6 plummeted down with a speed so high that if a parachute doesn’t deploy, it becomes a lethal projectile. Up there, the iPhone 6 experienced a temperature of -61C, 112km/h wind speed and was spinning at 150rpm. Read more »

This is best described as the social network for your workplace. It has mobile apps for Android and iOS, which should launch today, as well as a website that’s accessible from computers. Skype has made a new iOS version available today in the iTunes App Store, which comes with a couple of improvements to the calling features. Skype 5.9 for iPhone also debuts the pre-release program for iOS, through which you can provide feedback and get access to early versions of the app.

It’s sort of like a beta testing thing, and there’s a limited number of preview spots available. You’ll get to give feedback on the newest in-development features, as well as send bug reports to the Skype team. Read more »

Google has updated its Translate app for Android and iOS and it now features the seriously cool Word Lens translation. This allows you to point the camera to any text and have it automatically translated on the fly.

The Word Lens mode is a technology that Google bought last year and currently supports English to and from French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. There’s also enhanced Conversation mode. Read more »

The wearables market may have created a lot of buzz over the past few quarters, but looks like it will take some more time for that buzz to convert into genuine consumer interest. According to a latest research report from GlobalWebIndex, which surveyed around 170,000 adult internet users across 32 markets, only 9% said they have a smartwatch, and even less, 7%, said they own smart wristbands.

In contrast, around 80% of the people surveyed said they own a smartphone. While that’s undoubtedly a major chunk, it’s still less than the proportion (91%) using PCs. As for Android vs iOS, the data presented in the report puts the former far ahead of the latter (see image below). Read more »

He is one of the most popular Italian footballers playing for the local club Roma. Apple has raised the minimum price for apps in the App Store. Apple announced the upcoming change back in December and it now applies for all EU countries and Canada.

Last year, Philips announced the Fidelio M2L headphones designed to work with Apple’s Lightning connector. At CES this year, Philips announced a new model, the Fidelio NC1L that also includes built-in noise cancellation.

Just like the M2L, the NC1L includes its own integrated DAC and amplifier for converting the pure digital signal from the Lightning port into audio signal for the drivers. It also includes four microphone array for the noise canceling feature to work. Read more »
