Sony SmartBand SWR10 review: Keep track of your life

by 32 comments

Sony’s SmartBand SWR10 is what you’d call a life logger, a fashionable band, a music/camera remote, and vibrates on notifications. It collects motion data and logs everything within a dedicated app on your Android smartphone.

Sony Smartband SWR10

Despite what the product name may have you believe, the Sony SmartBand is not meant to be a smart personal assistant. It’s an unobtrusive device with exchangeable wrist bands to match your style and blend seamlessly with any other accessories you might have.

And no, it doesn’t have a display, but the lack of one doesn’t get in the way. There are three small status LEDs and it communicates with you with vibrations. Read more »

Nokia Lumia 930 hands-on

by 75 comments

Nokia’s latest Lumia offering has hit our offices, and we’ll be giving you a quick tour of the Nokia Lumia 930 before it gets whisked away for our comprehensive review.

The Lumia 930 is the international variant of the Nokia Lumia Icon released in the US for Verizon earlier this year, and is one of the first devices to sport Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 8.1 update out of box.

The Lumia 930 sports a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED of Nokia’s ClearBlack variety, which we unfortunately found to color shift severely towards red/blue when viewed from different angles – a problem that we’ve also seen in past Nokia AMOLEDs. The chipset is of the MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 variety, with four 2.2GHz Krait 400 cores, and an Adreno 330 GPU. There’s 2GB of RAM on board alongside 32GB of non-expandable storage, all powered by a 2420mAh battery. Read more »

Samsung Galaxy K zoom battery test

by 3 comments

The Samsung Galaxy K zoom packs a 2,430mAh battery, less that you would imagine looking at its bulk. Still, Samsung has had a few iterations to optimize its Exynos chipset for great power efficiency and the Galaxy Note 3 Neo got great results with the same chipset (but bigger battery).

Oppo Find 7 battery life test

by 24 comments

The Oppo Find 7 is only the second QHD screen-toting device currently on the market, and also brings some serious horsepower with it – enough to rival other mainstream flagships from Sony and Samsung in the performance department.

The Find 7 also has the added benefit of having a 1080p twin in the Find 7a, so we can see just how much extra battery life is required to power a 2560 x 1440px display. Read more »

Angry Birds Seasons ‘South HAMerica’ update review

by 32 comments

South HAMerica is the latest update to Rovio’s Angry Birds Seasons game, which is updated every now and then for a festival or season specific level pack. The South HAMerica update is odd, in that it doesn’t directly relate to any season or festival, and other than some vague reference to the football matches being held in Brazil isn’t as topical as the previous updates.

As usual, you get a pack of couple dozen levels. We haven’t played the regular Angry Birds in a while so we decided to give this a try. Read more »
