Panasonic announces selfie-friendly Lumix GF7 compact mirrorless camera

Panasonic has made the latest member of its GF line of cameras official today. It’s the Lumix DMC-GF7, and it comes with a few selfie-oriented features that should make it quite interesting for the selfie-obsessed who want to use something better than a smartphone for those shots.

The GF7 comes with a 3-inch screen which you can flip around (as seen in the image above). When you do that, the camera instantly turns into selfie mode. Oh, and you can even activate the shutter from a smartphone, through the GF7′s built-in Wi-Fi. Read more »

Nat Geo photographer showcases the 4K chops of Nokia Lumia 930 in Africa

In order to showcase the newly acquired 4K capture credentials of Nokia Lumia 930, Microsoft handed the device to the National Geographic photographer Stephen Alvarez. The cameraman has been tasked with capturing the seven wonders of the world with Victoria Falls being one of the stops in his journey.

Fujifilm unveiled a small update to its X-A1 compact system camera. The Fujifilm X-A2 builds on the tilting screen of its predecessor by letting it flip 175° for easier selfies. The screen itself is a 3″ 920k-dot LCD.

Alongside the new camera, Fuji unveiled two new lenses for the system – the XC16-50mm II and the XC50-230mm II. Read more »

Apple received a patent for a mountable sports camera. The Cupertino giant drafted the application for the gadget back in 2012.

Nikon D5500 is the company’s first DSLR with a touchscreen

Nikon has announced its latest enthusiast camera in the face of the D5500 – the first DSLR by the Japan-based company with a touchscreen.

Skipping over the D5400 (out of superstition perhaps), Nikon’s D5500 adds a few improvements over its predecessor D5300 – a new fully touch-enabled articulating 3.2″ 1,037,000 dots screen, redesigned control dial, more ergonomic grip, proximity sensor above the viewfinder that turns off the LCD, full ISO range of 100-25,600 and a body that’s slightly smaller and lighter. Sony’s A7 II lands in the US on December 9, starts at $1,699

The full-frame mirrorless Sony A7 II was made official last week, and now the Japanese company has shared its release details for the US.

The A7 II will become available on December 9, and it will be priced at $1,699 in body-only form. Sony will also offer a $1,999 kit that will contain a 28-70 f3.5-5.6 OSS zoom lens too. Read more »

Sony unveils A7 II full-frame mirrorless camera with in-body IS

Sony has unleashed its latest mirrorless full-frame camera dubbed A7 II. It brings an improved body, speedier focusing, new video capture abilities and is the first full-frame mirrorless camera to have in-body stabilization.

The A7 II relies on a 5-axis IS that will move the sensor (sensor shift technology) to avoid blurring. Sony claims the new IS could compensate up to 4.5 stops (CIPA standard). Read more »

Project Beyond from Samsung is a 360° 3D panoramic camera that works with the Gear VR

New display technologies have a chicken and egg problem – there’s no content for them, because there are no such cameras (because there’s no displays to watch stuff on). It happened to 3D and it may happen to VR – Virtual Reality – unless products like Samsung’s Project Beyond become popular.

Xiaomi might be working on its own $163 action camera to rival GoPro and HTC’s Re

According to the latest rumors out of China, Xiaomi has a new product in the pipeline, though this isn’t a smartphone as you may expect. Apparently the company wants to get into the action cam market, for whatever reason.

So it will make such a device, one to rival GoPro’s offerings, but perhaps also the recently unveiled HTC Re camera. Read more »

Three UK secured an exclusive deal to carry the new HTC Desire Eye and it will carry the HTC RE camera as well. Not exclusively though, EE will also offer the action camera.

Yesterday HTC released two new devices, the HTC RE, a tiny waterproof camera for taking wide angle photos and videos and the Desire EYE, the first phone with a front facing 13 megapixel camera with dual LED flash.

Apple completely loses the plot, revokes Computer Bild magazine accreditation over #bendgate video

Just when we thought that the whole #bendage thing was behind us, here comes Apple to reignite it all over again. The company has revoked the press accreditation of German magazine Computer Bild after it published a video of its editor-in-chief bending iPhone 6 Plus and then failing to do so with the Galaxy Note 3.

Now whether or not an €800 phone should bend like that or if you should apply such force to it is beyond the point here. What’s important is Apple’s reaction to the case. Read more »

GoPro unveils Hero4 Black and Silver, entry-level Hero

GoPro officially introduced three new action cameras – two new Hero4 cams and a new entry-level camera called just Hero. The Hero4 comes in high-end Black and mid-range Silver options but the difference between the two is bigger than in previous years – the Black records 2160p@30fps video, while the Silver doesn’t but is the first with a color touchscreen.

All cameras record at least 1080p@30fps and can dive up to 40 meters (131 feet) underwater – far beyond what any IP-certified phone can manage (of course, you’ll need the waterproof housing for that). Read more »
