Microsoft officially releases Windows 8 and Windows RT

Today Microsoft stepped on stage and released its Windows 8 and Windows RT to the tech world in what was largely conceived as the biggest Windows release ever. Availability starts today and active Windows 7 customers can upgrade starting from $39.99.

Apple October 2012 Special Event for iPad mini now available for download

Yesterday, Apple held an event in San Jose, California, where they announced the new iPad mini, fourth generation iPad, new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, new iMac, refreshed Mac mini and a new iBooks application.

The keynote was live streamed but was only available for viewing if you owned a Mac, an iOS device or an Apple TV but now the keynote video is available for download to everyone. Read more »

Apple updates Mac mini and iMacs

In addition to the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, Apple announced the refreshed Mac mini and iMac lineups at its event tonight.

For the Mac mini you can now choose between dual-core i5 and quad-core i7 processors, up to 16GB RAM, up to two 1TB hard drives or 256GB SSD. Wi-Fi n connectivity and Bluetooth 4.0 are also on board. Read more »

Acer announces the Aspire 5600U and 7600U all-in-one PCs

Acer has unveiled its latest all-in-one solutions running Windows 8, the 23-inch Aspire 5600U and the 27-inch 7600U.

Both models have adjustable stands allowing them to be tilted at different angles for more natural touch inputs. Acer has incorporated clever stands on both AIOs allowing user to tilt them up to 90 degrees or even lay them flat on a table. Read more »

Dell announces new Windows 8-running PCs, lets you preorder now

Dell is introduced its lineup of upcoming PCs, running the new Windows 8 operating system.

There’s the new tablet-slash-ultrabook called XPS 12, the XPS 13 ultrabook has received an Ivy Bridge update, while the XPS One 27 and Inspiron One 23 All-in-Ones got touch-enabled screens. All four are available for pre-order in the USA, Canada and select European countries with shipping expected to start on October 25. Read more »

Sony revamps its computer line-up, here are the prices for the new models

Sony is busy revamping its computer lineup, bringing new devices in several categories. The VAIO Tap 20 and VAIO Duo 11 will be firsts for the US market, but more importantly we have pricing and launch dates.

Along with the additions of the new models, there’s one line that has been showed the door – the awesome (and wallet-punching) VAIO Z is nowhere to be found on the new roster. Read more »

Google updates Chrome for desktop and Android

Google has released updates for Chrome across the board with a new version for Windows, OS X and Android respectively. On the desktop, Chrome, now updated to v22, gains the Mouse Lock API, which lets you play games inside the browser window without having to worry about the mouse pointer escaping the window or bumping into the sides. Basically the pointer will be locked to the window of the browser. You can try it out with this demo.

Other changes include additional enhancements for the upcoming Windows 8 and improvements for HiDPI or Retina display users on the new MacBook Pro. Read more »

HP announces new SpectreONE AiO desktop PC

HP has announced the new SpectreONE, an All-in-One desktop PC running Windows 8. The company claims it is the thinnest AiO PC in their portfolio, at just 11.5mm.

HP achieves this thickness by removing several key features, most notably a touchscreen display and an optical drive. The SpectreONE instead comes with a standard 23.6-inch 1080p display and a multi-touch trackpad, which looks pretty much identical to the Magic Trackpad that Apple provides with the iMac. Samsung announces Windows 8 based Series 7 and Series 5 AIOs

Samsung has announced three new members of the Series 7 and Series 5 range of All-in-One (AIO) desktop computers running Windows 8. The Series 7 includes a 27-inch and a 23-inch model whereas the Series 5 includes a 21-inch model.

All three models come with a 10-point multi-touch display that supports the full range of gestures you find in Windows 8. They also all have a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Read more »

Windows RT to ship with Preview version of Office 2013 RT, loses some features

It has been known for a while now that Microsoft will be shipping a version of the new Office 2013 with Windows RT and that it will be the only non-Metro application that can be accessed on this particular version of the operating system.

Now we are learning that Office 2013 RT, which is to be included on Windows RT will be a watered-down version of the full blown Office 2013 that you will experience on standard Windows 8 or 7. Read more »

Apple releases new ads for the Mac

It’s been quite a while since Apple released ads for the Mac. All the recent memorable ads have either been for the iPhone or the iPad. In fact the last memorable ads for the Mac were the famous ‘Mac vs. PC’ series and it’s been three years since those came out. But now that Apple recently updated their MacBooks, they probably felt it was the right time to go ahead and make some new ads.

So now we have three new ads for the Mac that don’t concentrate on any particular model, but like the older ‘Mac vs. PC’ ads aim to glorify the Macs as a whole and all the features they have. They also fail spectacularly at doing that. Read more »

Apple quietly upgrades the Mac Pro, discontinues the 17-inch MacBook Pro

It seems the company’s flagship product, the Mac Pro, was not worthy of a mention at the WWDC keynote yesterday because the product has received a quiet update after the event was over. Unfortunately, if you have been waiting for a significant update to this product, you are in for a disappointment.

Acer announces Aspire S7 Ultrabook, Iconia tablets and U Series All-In-Ones running Windows 8

Computex will officially starting tomorrow on June 5 but Acer has already kicked things off with a whole slew of Windows 8 based products.

First of all are the two Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks. Available in two sizes, 13.3-inch and 11.6-inch, these are the thinnest and smallest, respectively, Full HD touch Ultrabooks in the world. Both models feature an aluminum unibody design but the 13.3-inch model also uses a glass top. The 13.3-inch model also has a display that tilts all the way back so you can use the touchscreen more comfortably. Read more »
