With CES 2015 announcements under way Lenovo wasted no time in the introduction of its future product plans in the mobile PC sector. Today the Chinese tech giant introduced the third generation of its immensely successful X1 Carbon model as well as new additions to the ThinkPad X, T, E and L families. The press release also discloses information on a new IPS panel by the company, as well as an interesting power-bank with interlocking design and multiple charging accessories.
It comes as no surprise that Lenovo is once again hitting strong on the mobile computer front and it is this kind of perseverance that insured the manufacturer the formidable leading position as the world’s biggest PC manufacturer for 2013. Samsung slipped in two new computers in 2014 even though New Year’s Eve is less than 48 hours away. One is an updated Series 9 ultrabook, the other a Series 7 all-in-one PC.

After the recent iMac with Retina 5K display teardown, iFixit has now gotten its hands on the new 2014 Mac mini. Although the machine looks identical to the past several generations, there are some new bits inside, some of which are quite troubling.
For starters, the circular plate on the bottom can no longer be twisted to open. Inside is another metal gate with unconventionally small TR6 Torx Security screws. Lenovo unveiled the Horizon 2s and Horizon 2e, two tabletop PCs. Both have screens around 20″ big and can work as an All-in-one PC or you can lay it flat on a table so that up to four gamers can use it simultaneously. Yes, gamers, the two Horizons are particularly well inclined to playing games.

Microsoft, with the help of its hardware partners, is making a $1 billion donation to schools in the United States to help them modernize and buy desktop PCs. The PCs in question are under $300 each, and that’s where the help of the company’s hardware partners in the face of Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo, Panasonic, and Toshiba is felt most.
Microsoft’s Education CTO Cameron Evans told CNET that because of the donation, he hopes that the children will become loyal Windows fans in the future. However, currently the focus is helping them have access to better technology, which will improve the quality of education. Read more »
Over at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco Intel has shown its latest beast – the Core i7 Extreme Edition – dubbed Devil’s Canyon. It’s an 8-core 16-thread processor with unlocked cores (allowing easy overclocking), support for the latest DDR4 memory and a better thermal interface.
Intel has also confirmed that its next-generation processors, Broadwell, will feature Iris Pro graphics. Broadwell chipsets will have 14-nanometer processors and will come with unlocked cores. Read more »
