i wonder what canon is thinking. touchscreen is fine on compact camera. but on a dslR? no way. till to date touchscreen is still alot slower response compare to physical button and dials. imagine getting all the fingerprints marks on the lcd or your nose might accidentally set off something when you shooting.

Having a touchscreen might be good too, for example touch focus? although it is common in compact camera and camera phone nowadays but it is a new technology in DSLR..

Let's not be too hasty here. This can have a number of applications but as a hybrid system with buttons for the need to change on the fly stuff like ISO, focus point, locks etc. For the menus, this could work just fine and would free up space and buttons for other things.

Same here, as much as I appreciate the addition of video shooting with a SLR (and the image quality that goes with it), I don't think I would ever use a touch screen, at least for changing parameters, considering that I take my pictures looking in the viewfinder. Why would I use a SLR if not to take advantage of an optical viewfinder? (especially the 7D's) Also what was said is right, when you're holding your 1,5Kg camera, you don't want to change your hands position too often. On the contrary, touchscreen could be of use when reviewing pictures or going through menus, if it proves quicker than the actual joystick/dial + set button.
Anyway, I don't think Canon would resort to touch screen ONLY on one of their SLR cameras, so what's good for all my other equipment applies here: if you don't need it, don't use it! (but let others do)

Don't think it will work.

DSLRs are bulky and heavy, especially the pro-grade such as the 1Ds, which make it hard to operate one-handed. It already put enough strain on your hands when you are taking pictures, just imagine you need to hoist the camera one handed to adjust an exposure with a sweeping gesture...

I'd prefer physical buttons and dials over a touch screen on a DSLR any day.
