Amazon Cloud Drive now offers unlimited storage for $59.99 per year

by 30 comments

Amazon just became the first big cloud storage provider to offer an unlimited plan. It will cost you $59.99 per year, which is basically $5 per month, and it lets you “store an infinite number of new and existing photos, videos, files, documents, movies, and music”, according to Amazon’s press release.

There’s another option too, which can come in handy if all you need is some space to store photos. The aptly named Unlimited Photos plan gives you the ability to “store an infinite number of photos”, along with 5GB of other files, all for just $11.99 per year. That can be translated into $1 per month. Something like this was already available for subscribers to Amazon Prime and Fire device owners, but now it’s open for all. Read more »

Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 demoed on video, Oppo is unimpressed

by 62 comments

Qualcomm seems to be pretty proud of its Quick Charge 2.0 technology, that is an integral part of some high-end smartphones which use its top of the line chipsets. The Motorola Nexus 6 is in this situation, and Qualcomm has used this particular device in a new promotional video for Quick Charge 2.0.

Three of them, to be precise. They’re said to be identical, except each uses a different charger. The leftmost unit has a 5V 1A charger, the center one gets a 5V 2A charger, while the Nexus 6 on the right works with a Quick Charge 2.0 enabled charger. Read more »

by 28 comments

Facebook has introduced a new feature, called On This Day. As its name implies, it’s all about giving you reminders of stuff you’ve shared on Facebook on that particular date in the past.

On This Day is supposed to make it easier for people to look back at old photos and memories they’ve added to the social network. On This Day works both with the content you posted, as well as things you’re tagged in. Only you can see your On This Day page, but you can choose to share the stuff in there with your friends. Microsoft now lets you add your MP3s to OneDrive and play them via Xbox Music

by 34 comments

Google started the whole ‘music locker’ craze when it offered free storage for up to 20,000 tracks through its Play Music service (that limit has since been upped to 50,000). And now, following Amazon, Microsoft wants a piece of this pie too.

So it’s teamed up its OneDrive cloud storage service with Xbox Music. The former stores your existing music collection, while the latter lets you play it on your PC, Windows Phone, or Xbox. Unfortunately though, iOS and Android devices are not supported. Read more »

The euro’s current instability when it comes to exchange rates against the US dollar has forced OnePlus to take some drastic measures. Starting next week, the Chinese company’s One (and only) smartphone will become more expensive to buy in Europe.

Right now, the 16GB model is priced at €269, while the 64GB version goes for €299. But from March 25 onwards you’ll need to pay €299 for the 16GB variant and €349 for the one with 64GB of storage. Read more »

Facebook Messenger now lets you send money to friends

by 25 comments

Facebook has just announced the latest feature addition for its Messenger app – support for quickly sending money to your contacts. The company hopes you’ll use its solution for this purpose instead of other options like PayPal.

The unique differentiating factor here seems to be how easy it is to send money to someone. It’s done right inside the chat view with a contact, and after you’ve added your card once, it’s basically all a matter of choosing a sum. Read more »

Motorola is giving you a free 3G Moto E (2nd gen) if you buy a Moto X Pure Edition until March 24

by 30 comments

The deal of the day (and possibly even the week) comes from Motorola. The company is offering you a free 3G Moto E (2nd generation). All you have to do to get it for nothing is buy a Moto X (2014) Pure Edition straight from its maker.

So you first design your Moto X the way you like it, and when you’re finished with that just add the Moto E to your cart. At this point the savings should automatically appear, transforming the Moto E’s price into $0. The only (pretty huge) caveat is that the Moto X you purchase will have to be off-contract. by 29 comments

Today on its blog made for video creators YouTube has announced a new feature which is coming to videos it hosts: cards. Think of these like a (pretty big) evolution of annotations.

10TB hard drives have become reality

by 96 comments

Western Digital subsidiary HGST has shown a 10TB hard drive at a tradeshow for Linux and open source storage developers. So yes, 10TB hard drives are a thing now. Unfortunately though, the 10TB SMR HelioSeal HDD by HGST is destined for enterprise use only.

But in a few years, who knows, one of its successors (of the same capacity) may just end up inside your next desktop PC – if by that time consumers will still buy hard disk drives, of course. Or PCs. Read more »

by 46 comments

Back in December of last year OnePlus marked its one year anniversary by, among other things, announcing a brand new accessory – its very own 10,000 mAh power bank. However, the company only unveiled its pricing and the fact that it would be out in early 2015.

Today though OnePlus has thankfully attached an actual release date to its power bank. It will be up for grabs starting on March 17, which is next Tuesday, so the wait is almost over (if you’ve been at all waiting for this product, of course). Read more »
