Google+ gets a ton of new features along with Hangouts

by 41 comments

At yesterday’s Google event, the company announced a slew of new features for their Google+ social networking service, along with the Hangouts messaging service.

Google+ already had a pretty impressive photo sharing experience that is way ahead of what other services such as Facebook offer but now Google has made it even better. In the new update, the service automatically scans your photos and sorts them by categories such as sunsets, snow, etc. by identifying over a thousand objects within the images to make searching for your photos easier. NVIDIA Shield gets a major update

by 6 comments

NVIDIA’s Android-based handheld gaming console Shield has received a massive update that brings with it several important new features. The first one is the update to Android 4.3 from the 4.2 on the previous build. Android 4.3, as you may know, brings things such as Bluetooth Smart support, improved text input and OpenGL ES 3.0, among other things (although Tegra 4 in the Shield doesn’t actually support OpenGL ES 3.0).

NVIDIA has also updated the game streaming support on the Shield. Now called GameStream, it lets you stream from 109 titles (at the time of writing) from your PC running an NVIDIA Kepler-based GPU to your Shield. You can also connect your Shield to a TV and play the Shield games on the big screen in Full HD. Read more »

‘Dead Trigger 2′ for iOS and Android game review

by 55 comments

Last year’s Dead Trigger was quite a decent game. The gameplay was fun for most parts and the graphics looked amazing for that time, or even by today’s standards, for that matter. However, the experience was sullied due to overzealous in-app purchase options that a lot of people took offense to, especially since the game was paid. Eventually the game went free, so then there were fewer reasons to complain.

This year’s Dead Trigger 2 tries to take things up a notch by improving upon every aspect of it’s predecessor. As an added precaution, it is free from the start. With such a low price tag, it’s going to be tough to hold much against it but let’s see how it is anyway. Read more »

Mac App Store bug legalizes counterfeit iWork, iLife and Aperture

by 16 comments

Apple recently made its iWork suite of applications, including Pages, Numbers and Keynote, along with the iLife suite of apps including iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband free for buyers of new Macs. However, if you’re using a counterfeit version of these applications on your Mac then now there is a way you can update to the latest legit version right through the Mac App Store.

Call it a bug or a feature, but if the Mac App Store detects an older version of Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband or even the $79.99 photo editing application Aperture, it will tell you that an update is available for download in the Mac App Store, regardless of where you sourced the app from. Once you update, the application is permanently associated with your Apple account and can be downloaded for free from Apple any time you want, just like any other app you bought. Read more »

Surface Pro to cost $699 after another $100 price cut

by 46 comments

Back in August Microsoft dropped the price of the Surface Pro tablet by a $100, bringing it down to $799. Now, after the launch of the new Surface Pro 2, Microsoft has made another price cut.

Starting today, the older Surface Pro will be sold for $699, which is another $100 off the price tag. That might still seem a bit steep for a tablet but when you consider that it is practically a notebook underneath it is not all that bad. Read more »

Madfinger Games has released the sequel to the popular first person shooter Dead Trigger. Called Dead Trigger 2, the new game features the same first person zombie killing action but this time you won’t be playing alone.

The game is never-ending as such as the story progresses in real time, whether you are playing or not. Read more »

Watch this iPad Air TV ad narrated by Bryan Cranston

by 20 comments

Yesterday, Apple announced the fifth generation iPad, christened the iPad Air. It’s thinner, lighter and faster than the model it replaces. The company has now released a new TV ad for it and who better to voice it than Bryan “Heisenberg” Cranston himself.

I think we are all familiar with Bryan Cranston by now. Not only has he been the star of the incredible TV series ‘Breaking Bad’ but also acted in several movies and did a brilliant job every time. As for the ad, it is equally brilliant but you’ll have to watch it to find out why. Read more »

NVIDIA announces G-SYNC technology for smoother gaming experience

by 37 comments

If you’re a PC gamer (or just a geek in general), you may have heard of the term V-sync. It works by delaying the image frame update until the vertical blanking interval of the display, so that there is no overlapping of frames that leads to screen tearing. While this does eliminate screen tearing, it causes performance issues with low framerate and a jerky mouse response. This leads to most people choosing to keep it disabled to get higher framerate and response at reduced visual quality.

The problem today is that LCD monitors usually have a fixed panel refresh rate of 60Hz and unless the GPU is attaining anything other than 60fps, the result is less than ideal performance. Current V-sync technology makes the GPU run through hoops to match its speed with the display’s refresh rate. This is where NVIDIA’s G-SYNC comes in. Read more »

Purported leaked packaging for the Nexus 5 reveals a white variant

by 60 comments

Can’t get enough of the Nexus 5 leaks? Well, good news, for we have one more for you. The latest one shows what is supposedly the packaging for the phone. The very Nokia-esque blue box has the image of the phone on the front and the back next to the Google logos, with the LG logos placed on the side.

But what’s more interesting than the packaging itself is the image of the phone depicted on it. You’ll notice that it is, in fact, white in color whereas all the leaks we have seen so far, including the official image and listing on Google Play, have only shown the black model so far. Read more »

Nokia has been working on a smartwatch concept of their own

by 33 comments

Suddenly, everyone is interested in smartwatches (and by everyone I mean the companies making it because the average customer still doesn’t care). Samsung has made one, Apple and Google are supposedly making one and now it seems so is Nokia.

Code named ‘Facet’, Nokia’s smartwatch concept is by far the most outlandish that we have seen, mostly because it looks very little like a traditional watch and is mostly just a band with displays all over it. Read more »
